i've been thinking about all these pasts that we've been collecting, writing, reading, and gossiping about. i've had this internet journal for about three years. i had one before this one for about three years and one even before that one for a year or so. until the internet gets seriously regulated (if that is possible) it will all be out there ( ( Read more... )

goddamnit. it is worrying me, too, all of this nostalgia all the time. i don't know what to do to make it go away. then i think of nan goldin & self-documentation feels very important again. but there must be some finer balance.

1. reminiscing on a sunday over bessie smith and coffee is good, but nostalgia to the point of stagnation is for the weak and if i learned anything from the 1/2 of The Postman i watched last night, it's that the weak will perish.

2. punk names have really turned out to be a blessing in light of this whole "googling" phenomenon. when i was fourteen and started going by colin atrophy, i never could've known that it would create a nice internet distinction. when you google my real name, all you get is my literacy assistance work and various other mundane crap.
