Name: Marie / Red's Squirtle ♂.
Game/Series: Pokémon.
Canon Point: Mt. Silver, I guess?
Age & Grade Level: 16 & Freshman.
Personality:
Since coming to Smash Academy, Marie has changed. No, he's not particularly braver or stronger. If anything, the school has made him even more timid and withdrawn. Between the drama his teammates have stirred up and the quantity of other people he's forced to interact with, his natural shyness has been rearing its ugly head more so than ever.
Before applying to the academy, Marie was soft-spoken and kept to himself, but to call him shy just wasn't fair. That has changed. Marie is shy, no doubt about that. Approaching a stranger can seem as difficult as climbing a mountain for the poor turtle. His anxiety has heightened as well, primarily because of all the trouble his teammates seem to be getting themselves into. The Volgin incident really shook him up.
It was said that if Marie were to ever mature, his sassy attitude may dissolve. Despite his heightened anxiety, Marie undoubtedly matured during his stay at the academy. And consequently, his sassiness has quieted. That isn't too say it's completely left him; he still uses it as a defense mechanism and he's still a bit of a judgmental jerk, but it doesn't define him as much as it used to.
Another thing that has become clear since coming to the school is Marie's unwillingness to want to grow up. If he had it his way, he would never ever evolve, and the day he did would be the worst day of his life. Vinnie's incessant reminding him that one day he will be "a man" has made him anxious and broody about his future. Uncertainty and responsibility are what frighten Marie the most, but dozens of other miniature problems seem to endlessly nag at him as well.
Despite all this talk of an increase in his timid behavior, he's managed to become very close with another student at the academy. A Spinarak. They met in a hallway and she gave him the creepiest look he had ever seen. But since then, he's grown fond of her strange quirks and has really began to have some serious feelings towards her. He takes his relationship with her awfully serious, despite the fact that they just barely started to call it official a month ago.
However, because of his timid nature, Marie hasn't had the easiest time forging relationships with other people at the school. Other than Spinny, he's got a handful of acquaintances and that's about all he's managed so far. But he's honestly been trying, if anything, to please Red and his teammates.
His relationship with his teammates, amazingly, has definitely strengthened. Through all the tears and hyperventilating, Marie still managed to become closer to his teammates.
Still, more than anyway, Marie is devoted to his trainer. It's in a Squirtle's nature to become attached and dedicated to their groups so his devotion is only natural. Red is his leader, his mentor, and his closest friend. After a weird event at the school, Marie remembered thinking he was a Wartortle on- Red's rival- Green's team. Forget the fact that Green is his rival; the thought of being on any other trainer's team made Marie feel physically ill. He would do anything for his trainer. If Red told Marie to stop breathing, he would. His feelings towards Red are still borderline creepy, obsessed fangirl, but he can't help it.
Unsurprisingly, as they have been together the longest, Marie is closest to Sasha. He wouldn't say it outright, but he thinks of her as a big sister figure. Despite the fact that he totally kicked her ass when they first met… He has some jealousy issues regarding her relationships with Red and the rest of the team and they may bicker occasionally, but that doesn't stop him from loving the heck out of her. Sasha is always Marie's first shoulder to cry on. He admires her bravery and her strength.
And Vinnie is Marie's big brother. Sometimes Vinnie has things to say that Marie doesn't want to hear, but he has a very strong relationship with the Venusaur that is damn near impossible to seriously weaken. At the moment, Vinnie's not on Marie's good side because of some jealousy issues and the aforementioned "man" problems. Normally, he doesn't mind Vinnie's usual teasing. He looks up to Vinnie in a similar way that he does to Sasha.
Sonny and Kojiro, while he isn't as close with them as the elemental duo, are very dear to Marie's little heart. Sonny's company is always appreciated and his mild-mannered, aloof attitude is enjoyable and calming for the little Squirtle. They've been bonding over the Biever-fever as of late. Kojiro's zen attitude can sometimes stress Marie out. How is it possible to be so mellow? But since rooming together, they've become closer. Marie has unlimited respect for Kojiro and admires what he is capable of. As for Euphie, Marie just seems to treat her like the family cat. He'll miss Euphie and Koji while they're away...
As for Victoria and Elis, Marie had never been particularly close to or fond of either. Marie possesses an odd hang-up that makes him insanely jealous of any other Squirtles, Wartortles, and Blastoise. Although he'd like to, for Red, warm up to Victoria, he never has. Additionally, Marie resents Elis for being the first Pokemon in Red's life. They're jealous of each other and have never really been on the best terms.
Marie's pop-culture obsession has only grown since coming to the school. He's been opened up to dozens of other things. While he may be known for his Justin Biever obsession, he's a fan of nearly every other pop singer you can think of. Well, other than Lady Gagarchomp/Gigi/Glagla/what-have-you. She's a talentless hack who is only a blatant rip-off of the classic (and flawless) Britney Axe. He's also got a passion for those little magazines targeted to 14-year-old girls. Yeah, the magazines assumption that he's female does irk him a bit, but those quizzes are just so damn addictive. He's also become quite the little Twihard. He found the first Twilight in the library and has sense become a bit obsessed…
It's a known fact that Squirtles, when made anxious, withdraw into their shells and spray water from their mouth. With Marie's timid and easily-excitable nature, this is something he does often. This carries over into his human form; whenever he is made excited or anxious he has the overwhelming urge to retreat into his hoodie and he can't help but begin to drool. He's also got a passion for water. Unsurprisingly, a water type likes water. He drinks about sixteen to twenty-five glasses of water a day and takes the longest, coldest showers you can imagine.
Because of his timid nature, it's easy to assume Marie's a pushover in battle. That is false. Marie puts up a tough fight and uses every battle as an excuse to show Red how powerful and reliable he is. Losing in front of Red is shameful and horrifying, but he has, of course, done it before. Matches against Electric and Grass types are terrifying. But, really, Marie puts up a good fight. He's a strong Squirtle who has been trained by one of the best.
Backstory:
Once upon a time, a boy was given a Squirtle. The boy's name was Red, a young trainer from Pallet Town. He allowed the Squirtle to name himself, and so the young Pokémon named himself Marie. From then on, the boy and the Squirtle would grow almost inseparably close and would train to become, truly, the very best.
Along the way, Red caught (or somehow acquired) other Pokémon and went on an amazing journey with his team. Red's childhood Pokemon playmate, Elis the Pikachu joined them soon after they left, much to Marie's dismay. The three of them traveled to Mount Moon and saved a Charmander- soon named Sasha- from being killed by Team Rocket. In Vermillion City, they picked up a bold Ivysaur who was eventually named Vinnie. The trio steamrolled any of the gyms in their path and went through creepy Lavender Town together.
Marie ate an Everstone.
Somewhere along the way, Red picked up a Wartortle from an old couple, and she was named Victoria. The team adopted an Eevee in Celadon City named Euphie who would later evolve into an Espeon. Red found a flute in the Pokémon Tower and soon Sonny the Snorlax was added to their dysfunctional bunch. In Saffron City, the team met a Lapras and it was named Kojiro. The team was coming together and was nearly unbeatable. They took down gym after gym until finally it was time to take down the final one.
Gio. Fucking. Vanni. The head of Team Rocket was the final gym leader. But, really, they had no reason to be afraid. The team took him down and Sasha even evolved into a Charizard. They left, Marie feeling on top of the world, and took down Green too. Then, the team went to take on the Elite Four.
Of course, the amazing Red Team blazed through the Elite Four. And finally, Green was the champion. The team had the advantage; they knew Green's weaknesses. RED BECAME THE CHAMPION OF KANTO. But Red handed the title back to Lance and they went to Johto and punched it in the balls and settled down on a mountain.
They lived there for a long time. Vinnie eventually evolved into a Venusaur. And at some point, Red left. More and more gym leaders were flocking to a school in Final Destination City. Red's interest was piqued, and he left his team behind to scope the place out.
This was an awfully distressing period of Marie's life. His trainer was gone. Every once and a while they received letters from Red. One of them even included a Humanization HM. Another letter and they were told that Giovanni and Green were at the school. The team would not have this, and made plans to surprise Red.
They certainly surprised him, alright. The team enrolled at the school and all was right in the world again. Well, uh, sorta…
The perfect Red Team caused a few problems at the school. Sasha and Vinnie seemed to get themselves in a lot of trouble while Marie lost his marbles over the tiniest and biggest things. Kojiro, Sonny and Euphie... chilled, as they do.
At some point, Sasha and Vinnie managed to get themselves into a huge fight with two men in the city. Everyone was put into a critical condition and little Marie, who arrive at the end, managed to walk away with minor scrapes. But the aftermath was explosive. Marie distanced himself from the situation and the rest of his team…
Vinnie got his ass kicked by a crazy time god who was actually in love with him and Marie would soon grow rather fond of. Marie grew close to his new friend Spinny. Sasha experimented with dating by passing out free date coupons over Christmas which ended in disaster. She met a boy named Max and Marie and Vinnie crashed their date and that was really stupid.
Tension was high between the team. Euphie split and returned to Red's Mom's place. Sasha seemed to fight with Char every other second she was awake and Vinnie seemed to be getting closer to Bulba. Marie fretted over everything. He grew jealous of Vinnie and Bulba's friendship and grew nervous over the situation between Sasha and Char.
A week went by where the world turned upside down. Suddenly, Marie was Squirt, Green's Wartortle. When he snapped out of it, Marie made himself sick by re-reading the things he had posted during the week. Everyone else either seemed to have forgotten what happened or seemed otherwise unnerved by the events.
Sasha split. Things with Spinny began to get serious. He started staying over with her while Sasha was gone. Vinnie seemed to be isolating himself from Marie and so he returned the favor by excluding the Venusaur from his entry wherein he admitted to his team that he was dating Spinny.
He missed Euphie. He missed Sasha. He missed being close with Vinnie. He started to feel alienated. He left a note for his team mates; I'm leaving school for a while. It could be for a long time, I don't know yet. I don't know where I'm going.
And of course he met with Spinny. Through tears, he told her he needed to leave for a while. Don't forget about me. I... am melodramatic? Most definitely. Marie kissed her and he left, looking back just once to take a last look at Spinarak's awkwardly smiling face.
Red had told Marie where to find Sasha. The first stop was the Fire Dojo in town. He didn't spend a lot of time there. He whined to Sasha and felt uncomfortable around all the Fire Types for a solid 2 or 3 days. Afterwards, he returned to the comfort for Red's mom's house.
A Psychic kitty to curl up with, and his trainer's mother's soothing voice and good cooking was comforting enough for Marie to relax a little. For the most part, he ignored Victoria and Elis. Shortly after he got there, though, he was surprised by a certain someone at the doorstep; Spinny. Elis left for Smash Academy soon after that, and Victoria followed. The only thing missing in his perfect new life was Red. With him around, Marie would have been the happiest little Squirtle in Kanto.
And Red certainly was missing. While Red may have inherited some of his looks and traits from his mother, she frankly didn't compare to Marie's trainer. After a month or two, the lack of Red in his life was beginning to make the turtle a little anxious. Finally, he reluctantly began to pack his things and prepared to return to Smash Academy. Marie said goodbye to Euphie and Spinny. The couple decided to stay in touch, despite the long distance. He didn't say a word to Red's mom before leaving as quietly and non-intrusively as possible. Maybe she wouldn't even notice he was gone...
Although little did he know, Marie was leaving his home just as Red was leaving the academy. The little Squirtle was in for an unfortunate surprise...

Maybe if he didn't announce his return on the network, no one would notice he was back. But what if he did make an entry and didn't say anything about coming back? Maybe no one would notice he was even gone. Although, maybe if he didn't make any entry, no one would know he was ever there at all. And wouldn't that be great?
His fingers hovered over his keyboard for a good minute or two, mulling his options over. Maybe he'd just pop by Red's dorm to tell him he was back, and hey, don't tell Vinnie, okay? Marie sighed. After about 10 minutes and 1000 backspaces, he had something typed out. And when the temptation to delete it immediately after he posted it was too strong, he got up and left. Hopefully no one would notice it was there.
