The community icon reminded me that one of my very first projects was a voodoo doll. In dark brown acrylic. With black dreads. I need to finish that, lol.
I'm working on a bunch of socks right now. I've got one blue one done, but have put the second one on rest since I had to force myself to finish the first. I'm also making some "Ballet School Dropout Sockettes" with a stretchy purple and pink (mostly purple) self striping yarn. I'm planing on making a pair of normal sized socks with the left over yarn when I'm done with the slipper socks and the aforementioned blue sock.
I'm expecting a wee one though, so I'll probably drop all that and start working on baby stuff as soon as I find out the sex of the baby. I saw a really cute "tattoo hat" on Ravelry that I'm thinking I might borrow the idea of for a baby sweater or something. Love Tattoo Hats...it's someone's personal project, but I don't think it'll be too hard to reproduce.
Looks like fun! I'm horrible with socks, I've barely finished 2 1/2 pairs of them and they were all kid sized. So shameful!
That tattoo hat is adorable! I really dig it. I think I'd be tempted to embroider it, though. I've gotten really into embroidering lately. Using a smaller yarn for the heart and banner and smaller needles would make it easier to stitch into.
Ooo, baby stuff. I've got a Tiny Tea Leaves sweater started for my girls and can't wait to finish it. Next I want to try Laura Chau's Baby Bunting Sweater. They wear the same sized stuff so I'm able to justify making more cute things for them right now and I love it. I've got a niece coming in October too, so I've got a few tiny hats to make. Isn't it fun making tiny things? Or maybe this is your first? I don't know, but congrats regardless!
I've found that I stick with socks better when I use a self striping yarn. In theory a neat pattern might work too, but I haven't tested my attention span for that
( ... )
Awww, I didn't make almost anything for my first either. I didn't know how to knit or crochet very well back then, so I just made him a small, simple blanket.
Dude, nothing is worse than the "oh..." when someone looks at something you've worked on for hours. Bummer. I guess I'm lucky enough with my family- they're a bunch of mooches! My sister in law asked if maybe I could make her a hat for her baby coming in Oct and by the end of the conversation she was asking for matching hats for them both, and hey, could I also make one in purple..? Hahaha, she's a hoot. I love her dearly, so I'll have fun making her baby stuff.
Next on my list is finally mastering socks! I have some really cute self striping sock yarn and it's the only way I can power through them. Cross your fingers for me?
Like basketcaselady, my entry above this was NOT spam. It has a link to a free sock pattern and a link to the hats project page on Ravelry. Could you or the mod please un-spam it?
I love that! It turned out beautifully, too. I've got a friend who wants me to knit her a tardis -anything-, and this looks like it'd be a fun project to try.
If your friend wants a Tardis anything, I've got a suggestion for a free quick little project. It's a Tardis phone cozy, a fast knitter could probably finish it in one evening of TV watching. I tend to take two evenings to finish one, but then I was either writing the pattern or trying to fix my notes at the time, so I bet I could have been faster.
