Edie Sedjwick, as a fascination that he experienced as something, "probably very close to a certain kind of love." but when asked about her following her death, he simply said "he hardly knew her at all". i find this both intriguing and saddening. i dislike that facts in our heads may be lies

and also, it's about perfection and covering all bases, isn't it? it seems it's the only way we would know if the love we give is really enough in any relationship. if yes, then wonderful. but if it's not enough, when measured at some point, then at least, we can say we did not cheat ourselves out of our very best. :)
