While selecting a college, climate was a consideration. I now always avoid LA in January because of the rain and the lack of drains in the surface road system. It doesn't have to be torrential rain or gallons of it, just that so many days in a row where it's wet. In January 1995 it rained for 14 days in a row, it was bleak.

A tsunami hitting LA is remote. The more likely scenario is that the coastline of California sinks into the pacific sending a tsunami westerly....surfers would be riding waves to Hawaii.
