I have this friend who’s a little bit racist. It’s not that he’s this Archie Bunker bigot who uses those infamously branded terms; he’s just from the very rural Midwest, and doesn’t know any better. It’s subtler and comes out more often in patronizing nuance. I know I’m as Germanic as they come, but it still bothers me a little

I had a conversation with a friend about the phrase "No Fatties, Femmes, or Asians."
me: Don't you think it's kind of weird and insulting to include "asians" in that group?
him: More weird than putting "fat" and "femme" together?
me: Well, I mean don't you think it's racist?
him: Well, it's three things the person doesn't like.
me: Yeah, but why those three groups? I'm sure there are other things the guy doesn't like.
him: Well, those three groups are three of the worst when it comes to lying that they are in that group.
me: What?
him: I dunno, it just seems like asians, more than any other racial group, try to hide or conceal the fact that they are asian. Just like fat people like to try to hide the fact that they are fat in their ads, and queens try to hide the fact that they're queens.
I don't meet people off of personals, do I don't even really know if this is true. But it's an interesting version of the argument: "I wouldn't be against _____ people if they would stop acting the way they act!"

I just love that.
But considering that I’m the type of guy to do omakase at sushi bars...
All the food metaphors...we did omakase last night - the only way to go.
Ani raves on about your LJ posts always being entertaining. I'm also Canadian but I now have a distinct aussie twang.
