that's a great story brian. but yeah, that's basically how it went. and then we stranded him at the metro stop for ten zillion hours. 'twas great.

silly buddhist. lent is for catholics!

you aren't giving anything up. what you are doing is self-help.
not that it's not a bad thing.

sure, you can use the forty days as guidelines. but LENT is a catholic holiday, paricularly in america. the point of lent is to give up something that is a basic in your life. just like jesus gave his life, the greatest sacrifice, to save you. the point is for you to know sacrifice to. mardi gras/fat tuesday is also a catholic celebration. it's the big party where everyone lets loose and then everyone buckles down and gets serious. that starts on ash wednesday. no one else except for greek and russian orthodox denominations do lent. and they typically give up meat.

and halloween is a pagan holiday. i like the concept of lent, i'll practice it if i want.

furthermore what i'm giving up is time and effort that i could be devoting to something else. and catholics gave up meat for a long time as well, some still do.

furthermore what the fuck do you care? whatever i'm doing, i'm doing whether your definitinos of the word and custom jive with myne or not.
