BRAND NEW BRAND NEW BRAND NEW

Okay okay. Brand New time.

How can I describe yesterday in 3 words/phrases?
1. Intense
2. Incredible
3. Best day of my life

Friday night at around....7? Jordan came over and we made shirts! :D I incorporated all sorts of allusions: I made a hangman (You Won't Know) with devil horns and a halo (TDAGARIM), and made it so the blanks missing in the hangman puzzle were the A and E (so it said BRND NW = no vowels = a BN thing, haha) and I put the Sic Transit sheep on the back (actually it's a Marc Webb sheep but BN's better than Yellowcard so they don't get ownership of it). I drew powerlines on Jordan's shirt and she put "Cut me open. Sunpoised. This offer stands forever. New makeup. New bracelet. Eyeliner. Wait forever." (background vocals in the Soco chorus) and it had the BN logo on the back with the chess timer thing from the YFW album cover and I'm so detail-oriented. ANYWAY MOVING ON.

We got up at 12 and we got ready and left when Kyle, Ashley, and Tiffany got to our house to follow us at 1. Got to Royal Oak at around...2-something? It's a cute town with all its chain stores in old buildings, haha we ate at McDonalds and went to the venue at 3 to wait in the line for the acoustic show, which started at 3:30. We met with Kaitie and her friends and they were pretty awesome and gah I love shows. :D Anyway. We got our wristbands for the thing and then some 89x guy (idk which one) came out and gave all of the winners (AND NOT THEIR GUESTS?! Which was SO RETARDED I'm so mad about it, even though I was a "winner" and got one) a blown-up TDAGARIM CD cover signed by all 5 of them (including Derrick Sherman yay) and I thought I was going to make out with it I'm not even kidding. =/ Luckily I contained myself.

ANYWAY. We finally got in and we were RIGHT up front (there was no barricade yet, so we literally stood against the stage we were THAT CLOSE) and I found myself looking right into the face/body of a just-woken-up/soundchecking Jesse Lacey and I was like :O:D but you knew that already. Anyway, the Cal Cagno guy was like "We're broadcasting live from Royal Oak music theatre with a 89x New Rock Showcase with Brand New" and it was so awesome. Anyway. Before we went in we had to write any questions on slips of paper and Jordan asked "What kind of character does Jesse play in WoW?" (for Tom, haha) and I asked "Is Derrick really Jesse's cousin or not?" and BOTH OF THEM got answered, hahaha Jesse plays Rogue Quest in World of Warcraft, btw, and has 3 characters. Derrick is, in fact, Jesse's cousin. Among other questions was "In the song 'Good To Know If...', why did they steal the guitar solo from Hotel California?" to which Jesse answered with the most adorable hysterical laughter (They hadn't know they did; they thought they wrote it) and who the guy in the TDAG CD booklet is (Mike Sapone). The best part, though, was when someone asked what happened between them and Taking Back Sunday, to which we in the front row gasped and went "ooooh" and to which Jesse mimed answering and then went "Oh, the mic was off? Oh well." :D :D It felt so natural and comfortable and they are the most adorable bunch of guys in the WORLD.

They obviously planned to play Luca, Degausser, Jesus Christ, and Play Crack The Sky acoustic but at the end someone asked if they were going to play Jude Law later that night ("Maybe", but yeah, they did) and Jesse was like "Do you want me to play it now?" (cue cheering) and then "I shouldn't have said anything..." (since he can barely ever remember the beginning). But he played it flawlessly after starting a few times, and I'm sure all of Detroit/Windsor heard all of the giant BN fans clapping and singing along loudly. = the first of MANY powerful moments of BN fandom throughout the day.

We went back outside and me and Jordan were like "Let's go find a bathroom". On the way to Starbucks, where a bathroom was, and I looked into this smoothie shop/juice bar and was like "Is that Brian?" in my head but kept walking. On the way back, we looked in and saw Ashley and Kaitie and her friend, and Jordan was like :O and everyone was like "Don't yell!" before she could, because, lo and behold, there was Brian and Vinnie sitting there. We eventually sidled over to them, Jordan got hugs and signings, and I got them to sign my shirt. Vinnie kinda looked like he didn't want the attention, but Brian was so nice and accomadating and got a lot more points in my book. :] Then we went back to wait the remaining 30 minutes before doors opened.

We got in finally, got a spot on the barricade on the veryyyy end on Garrett's side and voila. Nice spot for the night where the drunk douches didn't try to kill us. (At one point, BETWEEN SETS, they got crazy and ended up pushing the front of the barricade up a few inches. D:)

Manchester Orchestra was okay. During two of their songs I was out getting merch, though. I was buying my BN shirt when I looked over and saw Kevin Devine selling his merch. :D I went over and was like "I just wanted to say hi..." and he was like "Hi, I'm Kevin" in this cute adorable soft voice and I was like "Do you mind if I take a picture with you?" and he was like "Of course not. Thanks for coming out so early." and we took a picture with my phone and he was so adorable. :D :D He thanked me a million more times and I went back to the stage all :D to tell Jordan he was out there.

Then, obviously, it was KevDev's turn. :D I didn't know many of his songs - or any except for Cotton Crush - but he was really good and he covered Holland, 1945 by Neutral Milk Hotel, and all of BN and all of Manchester Orchestra came out to play during it. And Jesse stayed on to play Cotton Crush with him, obviously. So yeah. I enjoyed him more than Manchester, but they were good, too.

THENNNNNN. OBVIOUSLY. BRAND NEW.

You Won't Know

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. IT WAS INCREDIBLE. During Soco during the "Everybody wake up" part, the WHOLE CROWD did the backup "Everybody wake up, it's time to get down" and I got literal chills. And then Jesse stepped away at the end so we could do the "You're just jealous 'cause we're young and in love"'s for what seemed like EVER until he finally stopped us. It was so powerful. Tears. I had real tears. I'm such a ridiculous emo kid. Uhhh...yeah. THEY PLAYED ALL OF DEJA IN ORDER. It was so awesome. Play Crack The Sky was INCREDIBLE for the second time that day. During Degausser and You Won't Know, though, Jesse freaking lost it. He was just screaming his heart out and it was SO intense.

It all accumulated to the very end, where during You Won't Know Jesse put his guitar down, started yelling the end "YOU WON'T KNOW!!!!!!" over and over again (at least 20 times) until finally he was on his knees and he did a final "You won't." before DROPPING the mic on the stage and walking out. You've never heard cheering like after that. There was a literal delay before the cheering, too, because it was THAT POWERFUL of a moment. No one talked during his "breakdown" like people usually do at shows. It was pretty much either awed silence from people (like me, with my mouth covered like :OOOOO) or people screaming it just as passionately. I can't even explain how incredible it was.

ALL IN ALL IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING DAY OF MY LIFE YES. If you plan on going, YOU HAVE TO. Likeeee ugh. If you're even a CASUAL BN fan, I can't promise it'll be as moving and intense, but I promise you'll be HOOKED after seeing this show. It wasn't flashy or showy in the least bit; it was so raw and emotional and I can't even explain it.

EXCEPT. Jesse said at the acoustic show that the long setlist probably won't last all tour because he doesn't want kids to wait over an hour to hear their new stuff. But hopefully it does because there's never been a setlist like it.

And If for some reason you don't even LISTEN to Brand New, GTFO my friends list. You think I'm kidding. :]
