in a way, yes... i believe that we have a specific purpose that we have to come to before our time on Earth is up. but i also believe that we have free will. i mean, the way i think of it is; we have a purpose, but we have to find the way there ourselves. we may get a few nudges from our Higher Power on the way, to attempt showing us the easier path, but they aren't going to force us to do anything.
Fate does not preclude free will, not does predestination/predetermination.
Example: I offer you the choice between a brand-spanking-new gorgeous sports car, and a piece of crap, literally falling apart, rusted out junker. I know which car you're going to pick. That doesn't mean you don't have the freedom to pick whichever car you want, I just know you're going to pick the new one.
I'm not sure if I would call it fate, but there is a way of things. I think that all things come in time. Perhaps there isn't an all incompassing fate, but it is something greater than happenstance.
Perhaps it's the math geek in me, but I understand that nothing can be completely random. Instead all of nature has a pattern. What you might call fate might simply be a reaction of seeing a pattern in action.
I agree with coffecuplove. Also, it seems that coincidences are kind of like a nudge from "fate" to give you the opportunity to take a certain path but ultimately it's up to you.
I believe that my fate is to end up hurt and alone with no one to love or to love me. Why? becaus e they are all busy loving people that hurt them, when I am the only person who wont but apparently doesnt deserve to be loved back.
Its bitter I know. but if anyone knew what i was going thru right now, you'd understand.
