Oh, come on, as if you can separate the two. The discursive totality in which something exists is a part of its very existence. Science itself, even the theoretical practice, would be different under different economic, political, social, and other conditions.
I disagree, to an extent. Things like this are getting done, but on a small scale. How to move from a small scale to a large scale is a tougher question.
Actually, I do. I'm engaged in projects that do just that. I also am engaged with a community garden, and growing food in my own house. I also work with a food cooperative aiming to make food more of a community resource and less of a corporate scam. Oh, and I support local farmers.
And that's just the food related things I do.
The problem isn't that we aren't doing these things. The problem is that more people have to choose to participate in them if we want them to spread more widely and to serve a broader population. There are certainly examples of this happening (both historically and presently), but broadly speaking in America today anarchists are working towards this but have not achieved it (obviously).
