Actually, I got next to nothing from being away; I also managed to cut myself off from people who might actually be interested in what I have to say so, all in all, not the smartest choice I've made.

Well, you learned something from it, right? Any experience that you learn from is not wasted. So it didn't work out the way you thought it would. Life is like that. Trust me, the last year and a half has taught me that, over and over.
