Here's a letter VCU sent to their students (or should we call them sheep?) regarding the spikes in violent crime on and around campus. Comments are from the editor of the Virginia Citizen's Defense League, whose newsletter provides interesting spins on current news in VA.

Any way you look at it, firearms on campus are a bad idea. There are far too many people around, many of them drunk and foolish. On top of that not everyone is fit to handle a weapon. Would you take the thing to class with you, keep it on you at all times? How would you secure it otherwise? Suppose your roommate gets drunk and wants to go shoot his empty beer cans while you're asleep. And all that in the middle of a violent crime ridden city, which means police will take down any armed person they see, perp or victim. Yeah I like guns and don't want the right to own a firearm limited, but VCU is also in charge of their own property and if they say no guns, then you don't bring a gun.

Yeah, that's the reason I don't wholeheartedly support this movement either. I just put this up here because I thought he did have some vlid (if idealistic) points. I think what he's referring to would be best for off-campus students with apartments or houses of their own, but have late classes, or want to attend a late event. Guns in campus housing are a bad, bad idea I will say.
