re: hermaphroditic

i may or may not imagined terrible, shameful thoughts of eridan and sollux penis-fencing the way that flatworms do (in a nutshell: the loser has to be the mommy.)

i am not proud

ZILON. YOU ARE AMAZING.

DEFINITELY THE SMARTEST, HOLY SHIT.

Biology is fucking AWESOME. And I love that you've nerded about this at length, seriously. Yeah, porn is great, and I will continue to enjoy it as I have and such, but the enjoying of pron and SQUUUUUUUEING about the hypothetical--and extremely plausible--mechanics of troll reproduction need not be mutually exclusive.

SERIOUSLY!!

Your brain is so awesome, man!! Thanks for all of this! Even if it was just for you, it was an incredibly thought-provoking read!

/SUCH. A NERD.

STAY AWESOME.

YES

YESSSSS

TELL ME HOW COOL I AM, FEED MY EGO

--I mean. Ahaha, I'm really glad that you liked it, and that it was, in fact, thought-provoking and not just incredibly creepy. It was really quite fun to think up, seeing as the only alternate theory of troll reproduction I've ever seen is this one, and while it's a fair attempt, I really don't care for it because it strikes me as more science fantasy than science fiction. I mean, if you're going to theorize about this stuff, you really don't need to make up hilarious birthday party noisemaker penises. Functional and practical sources of inspiration are all over the damn place.

BILL NYE WAS RIGHT, SCIENCE RULES.

HI I DON'T THINK I KNOW YOU but someone linked me to this and I thought it was pretty interesting. And I can't not think too hard about weird alien biology because I'm a special snowflake so I have some THOUGHTS and CONJECTURES that I felt like sharing.

Mostly about trolls as parasites and the mother grub role. Because one of my first thoughts after reading this was about whether the mother grubs were some kind of genetic creation of the trolls, like the game grubs and stuff. As in, thousands and thousands of years ago, they took some actual Alternian creatures and genetically modified them to be perfect incubators for their eggs, in order to make things more efficient for the empire.

It seems possible given troll attitudes and technology level, and it might explain the seeming asexual 1-to-1 reproduction of new mother grubs, as well as why Kanaya's lusus died after abandoning her duties. They're literally programmed to die if they don't reproduce for a certain amount of time.

I DON'T THINK I KNOW YOU EITHER but it's cool. Hello, nice to meet you! It's kind of wild that this is being passed around, but I really shouldn't be surprised in this fandom, ahaha. Friendliest bunch of misfits I've ever found.

I think it's very much possible that the mother grubs have been genetically modified/improved to the obscene level that the Mother Grub (In Capitals) has. She does, after all, lay tens of thousands of eggs at once, and seems to take on the reproductive responsibilities of the entire planet on her own. I do, however, believe that she is based off of a wild/lesser variant of mother grub if this is the case, because these parasitic relationships start somewhere. Parasitic reproduction is far more long-standing than figuring out "oh hey we can store data in organic grubs we grow, neat."

Honestly, the same case could possibly be argued for the lusii. Many species of parasitic insects change the behavior patterns of their hosts, but sometimes hosts aren't even part of the equation. Take for example Ampulex ( ... )
