Pairing: Adam/Peter (sort of)
Rating: Teen
Spoiler & Warning: None
Summary: Adam contemplated the price he has to pay.
I paid the price. Adam mused as he stared at the ceiling, lying sleepless in his bed. A heavy one, that is.
The price for eternity is an eternity of loneliness.
But it was okay with him. He had been alone even before all of this started. He had been alone pretty much after it started too. Whenever he had company, it only need a few years for them to start asking question about how he never seemed to change while their gray hair spawning one by one.
Then he would have to leave.
But it was okay with him. He was an egoist after all. He was so full of himself that he didn’t need anyone else in his life, but…
Adam turned his gaze to the soft breathing beside him. Then he traced his finger lightly on the soft black hair.
But this one is a special case.
Peter was his salvation. He was the one that could redeem his price, the one that could liberate him from the curse that had been nibbling away his insanity for more than four hundred years.
And also there was his innocence, his naiveté that radiate endlessly from him that make Adam believed that maybe, maybe it was worth it to save this wretched world.
Peter nudged his nose on Adam’s shoulder, seeking warmth, seeking comfort. You even do it in your sleep, Adam thought, amused by the fact. It was another thing that he loved about the young Petrelli. His constant need for comfort and approval is an easy string for him to pull at his will.
For a second, Adam believed that he could live forever with just Peter. Even if the world dies on them and they were the only ones left on earth, as long as there were two of them maybe he could stand it.
“…Nathan.” Peter mumbled in his dream, and Adam felt like a bucket of water had been thrown at his face.
Of course he could, Adam thought bitterly. He was so full of himself that he could live with only his amusement by his side. Peter, however, could not. He needed his family, his friends. Adam alone would not suffice. It would only a moment before the loneliness got to him, eating his mind, breaking his heart.
He wouldn’t be able to see Peter suffer like that.
Adam kissed Peter’s hair and lingered there as his finger stroke Peter’s neck.
There’s a price for eternity, and Peter wouldn’t be able to pay it.
Adam gritted his teeth as he felt another curse sealed into his fate. One day he would have to find a way to end the life of the only person that he thought dearly.
