Depressing

Did an informational interview tonight with a guy doing HIV research.  He just did a study of risk among transmen who hve sex with men and his findings are truly depressing.  Most of the men he interviewed experienced physical and or sexual violence in their lives.  Most were in their 30s making around $20,000 in San Francisco.  (The area median ( Read more... )

This isn't regarding physical and or sexual violence in their lives, or the necessity or desire to do sex work...

My comment: The economy here has always sucked for those interested in community building. I'm in my mid 40s now...make well below the SF median income, have a master's degree and almost had my PhD...I own a business that employs 12 people plus 10 independent contractors.

My best option for making more money? Staying with a corporate funded LG (not really B or T) non profit.

I think one reason I find Public Health workers hot, is they are putting their ethics and passion on the frontlines...

Yeah, you're on to something there Ken. I realized I left out of my entry that the researcher I met with is currently looking for work. Aside from how horrible his findings were, the fact that he was unemployed and couldn't find positions is depressing. All the public health schools paint such a rosy picture of the degree and career prospects but budgets cuts are affecting everything across the board. Anyhow, today I'm a bit more optimistic....
