PERHAPS you should try Pidgin? o: http://www.pidgin.im/download/ My friend Lyz uses it, it's an open source IM program that covers all the bases in one simple program.

Meebo is browser based and covers several IM programs (MSN for sure, probably AIM but you'd have to check). It often comes in useful when the MSN client is being a bitch (because when that program gets pissed, it stays pissed. Piece of shit).
