Religions and Agnosticism

Of all the religions that exist, I suspect Unitarian Universalism is closer to agnosticism than many (any?) others.  They are certainly less dogmatic  than atheists, and many UU's I know have the same questioning disposition I see among agnostics.  Many also have the same tolerance for ambiguity and uncertitude prevalent among agnostics.

Heh, I think UU has the market cornered on that one. This gives them time to actually work on social issues and forming community instead of worrying if God hates homosexuals or not.

I'm a fairly new UU (of about three years now) but I do enjoy being there.

In actuality, the healing I've found in this place has led me to be able to turn more to my roots of Christianity to see how they still fit into and/or affect who I am now and what I believe.

I know "agnostic Christians". I sometimes think I'm one of them. Is it ok if I'm an agnostic Christo-Pagan with Buddhist leanings? Well, it is in the UU church, thank goodness!

While I've met plenty of dogmatic atheists I've also met plenty of non-dogmatic athiests so I don't think that's a very fair generalization. I think what happens is that most of the non-dogmatic atheists get lumped in with the agnostics. Personally I consider myself an apatheist.

Well, weak atheism and non-dogmatic atheism seems very close to agnosticism. So close that many weak atheists are also agnostics. If we lump those categories together, that leaves strong atheism (i.e. - "I believe there is no deity.") looking more dogmatic. I should have clarified the my original post to specifiy strong atheism just to remove the amibiguity.

Sounds like this is your flavor of agnosticism:

Which I jokingly summarize as "I don't know, and I don't care." :-)
