Who: Auron and Rikku
What: Baby!
Where: Outside Dr. Tot's, and the car, and the apartment.
Rating: PG, maybe.
Auron peeled into the parking lot, bareling managing to get the brake pulled up before jumping out of his still running car.
"Rikku?" He ran to her car, looking almost frantic.
She looked up, her eyes puffy and red, sniffling once. "... Yeah?" The keys were in, although it wasn't on, wiping off her cheeks with the back of her hand.
... Just.. blankness. She didn't know what he said after. She couldn't look. Not right now, anyway.
He opened up the door, gathering her up into his arms.
"... I'm going to be a father," he murmured, smiling outright, holding her tight. He was actually smiling..
She blinked, her arms automatically going around his neck, the binging of the car faint in her ears as she looked up at him. "You- You're happy?" She inhaled hard, biting her lower lip. "You... are?" They hadn't planned it. It was less that she thought he didn't want it - she knew he would, that wasn't really the question - but the timing....
"I'm so happy."
His lips were against her ear, and he was spinning her. Actually spinning her. She was going to have his child.
She grinned, and the she blinked, wiggling just a little. "Spinning bad but happy good." She giggled, her face buried against his neck. "... Spinning bad mostly because I don't want to throw up on you, but otherwise it's good?"
He was spinning. He wasn't someone who spun. It was her, usually. So happy you twisted in the air-
... He was that happy. "... You're going to be the awesomest Daddy ever."
Auron let her down, cupping her cheeks in his hands. "We're going to be good parents."
He'd gone back to his usual expression. But his eyes were light.
She swallowed hard. "Y.. You think so?" The happiness in her eyes was tempered by sheer terror. "... What if I'm a sucky mother?" Blink. "What if I leave it somewhere?!"
Auron pressed his forehead against hers. Firmly.
"You won't." She was just being... Rikku.
She nodded, her arms around his neck. "... We're going to have a baby..." She blinked, and looked down, then back up at him. "... Can we go home? I'd like to go home. Not have amazing memories of awwwww in a parking lot with the bing... ing." She quirked a smile, taking a deep breath.
Auron smiled, grabbing her keys and sticking them in his pocket after locking up her car.
"... let's go home."
She smiled, and nodded, tugging her lip between his teeth. He was happy and she was happy and .... and they... and the baby... and oh goodness. "... Baby." She blinked. Several times, sitting in the passanger seat. ... Baby. There was a little person. .... A real one.
Auron reached over, taking her hand silently.
She was so... Rikku.
She blinked again, looking over at him. "I- I mean-"
... Don'tcrydon'tcrydon'tcry.
"... We can talk, right? When we get home? Cause talking is good. Especially now."
Auron shifted, looking at her.
"... talking?"
She smiled, and nodded. "... Yeah? I mean... we would have anyway, but now more talking and like..." ... Trying not to cry. Doesn't have to cry. Thank god it was dark. ... Cry. No cry. "... Cause I love you, you know?" ... Damnit. The cry was clear in her voice.
... She could blame it on hormones. Right? She was happy, though. Happy happy happy.
Auron squeezed her hand, taking the shortest route home.
"... I love you too."
She smiled, and leaned against the window, holding his hand until they pulled into the parking lot, and he turned off the car - she still wasn't talking. Kinda... shocked. Baby. Both of them, with a baby - him. Holding...
... It was one of the prettiest images her brain had ever come up with.
Auron just drove home.
He didn't know.
With the stopping and everything, she unlocked her door, undoing her seatbelt before finally letting go of his hand. Home. ... Luckily there was that extra room, right? .... Wow. ... Nursery.
... She was thinking so hard.
Auron would have been concerned, but he was thinking too.
The extra room could be done up as a nursery. But really, they needed a house. Children shouldn't grow up in condos.
She didn't even think that far - she was used to making do with what was around. ... She didn't even think of moving - and if she hadn't seen his bank statement, she'd be even more worried. Money, and all.
She managed to get out her house keys as she walked around the car to his side - ... dropping them no less then three times in the process.
Auron walked behind her, putting his hand behind her back.
"... we should look for houses this weekend."
She stopped.
And stared at him, like he'd suddenly turned green.
"... Whahuh?"
"... for a house."
He was looking at her much the same.
...
"What?"
... Again. Then blinking. "... I think I need to sit." And was about two inches from just sitting on the ground in the parking lot.
He picked her up in his arms gently, carrying her with him into the condo.
"... lightheaded?"
She leaned her head on his shoulder. "... Did you just say we needed to buy a house?"
... It was just today - not eating much, being sick, finding all of this out, plus the house- ... Made for a stressful day.
Auron nodded.
"We... we'll need room."
She swallowed. "... Can... we do that?"
She was barely making ends meet when she had her own place - now she actually had a tiny nest egg sacked away, but... still.
She leaned down with her keys from his arms, and unlocked and opened the door.
Auron led the way to the couch, sitting down with her on his lap.
"... and then some." He had some money pocketed away for a nest egg of his own.
She smiled, and kissed his cheek. "... Baby."
Still more then a bit in awe.
"Baby." He couldn't help it.
He was in shock too.
She looked down, wiggling in his lap to shimmy off her skirt, then pulled up her tank top, looking down at her stomach. "... Hellloooooooo. Helloooo, baby~" She ran her fingers over the spot. "... Wonder if it can hear me."
Auron laced his fingers with hers.
"... I'm sure that it can."
