The Hoooouse of Niiiiight

Recently I've started a new trashy book series (other favourites being The Dresden Files and The Princess Diaries). You know the ones--they go on and on and on and they're pulpy and the person writing them has a great sense of storytelling even if their prose isn't amazing? This one's called the House of Night series--it's a vampire thing--and I'm ( Read more... )

I actually own the first couple of books in that series, but I lost interest after all of Zoey's friends turned on her and whatnot. I hate books where that happens, plus her magical vagina was getting a bit excessive.

It gets better--the friendships are done really well in the later books. Aphrodite will forever have the best lines.

Yeah, I'm going to wait til all the books are released and then get someone to tell me what happened skipping out on all the luuuurve unless it directly results in someone's death.

I wish all her boyfriends would die horribly. I will not deny that I cheered when Loren bit it.

But he was a pooooeeet :'(

Um, Heath got his head twisted off by Kalona at the end of the last book, and Stark died and then got reanimated. Erik...Erik's just an arsehole and needs to die sooner.

My cousin reads these books and she keeps telling me too, but I've been completely turned off of vampires since the whole Twilight thing. o_O

Swim Fatboy Swim! I loved that book!

In a bizzare way, I think it only works if you're in love with vampires (like me) in all their incarnations. Otherwise, you don't get just how original it is.

I will say they're nothing like Twilight, thank God. Feminism exists in this book!

I loved the bit when they were making spaghetti and tiramisu :)

I used to love vampires, so it's a shame really that one set of books has put me off of them. When I read Twilight I wanted to bash their heads together! The main character drove me mad!

I did read a book when I was younger called Thirsty, if you're looking for anymore YA vampire books, and I remember it being quite good, but then that was a few years ago!

I think I may have read that--I can't remember the name of the first vampire novel I read, but I remember the last line. This vampire had got into our world, and "[secondary character] was thirsty."

*shudder*

I think my favourite vampire book is Let The Right One In, or 'Salem's Lot.
