Fashion Police: Boho Chic vs. Manic Pixie Dream Girl Granny Chic

Apr 26, 2012 12:05

I have a deep, deep, Boho streak which would have me dressed in lacy white ruffled cotton petticoats, bright colored prairie skirts, rose-embroidered off-the-shoulder peasant blouses and buckskin fringe, with orange and magenta embroidered touches, perhaps on the handknitted stockings, from the Estonian crafters on the island of Muhu, Frida Kahlo ( Read more... )

I recall being excited when it was rumored that Princess Caroline might enroll at University of Illinois about 35 years ago, when I was attending that school. Alas, she for some reason opted instead for the Sorbonne.

Actually, if Beard walked down the street in a prairie skirt, people would think she was a US tourist or needed to be pointed back to Portobello Market. She is thoroughly visually unremarkable in London, which made Gill's review even more--I wanted to say 'remarkable' but I am ending up with 'stupid'.

"Visually unremarkable" in London? Well, no. Not to me; because of her age. In a younger woman, costume and trend. In Beard, defiance.

Why do many older women cut their hair short?

two reasons -- to mortify the vanity; or, second, to avoid having long droopy hair accentuate your long droopy eyelids, jaw, and....what have you. The Parker Bowles carefully maintains the farrah fawcett feathers with which HRH fell in love so very long ago. but the idea is also that upward pointing hair gives your face a lift.
