Basically, after gaining a ton of new readers by forcing people who click through from Facebook to post on their wall to all their friends that they clicked through to something, users started saying no to that shit.
Specialized apps are ridiculous for publications, because they lock you into one technology platform. I have started to specialize in those "HTML5 that reconfigures itself depending on which browser on which device you use" sites. It doesn't work too well for transactional websites, but for publications it is ace if they force themselves to be a little rigorous about their story formats and lay-outs.
But Lally Weymouth is still asking important people really inane questions (admittedly less often than in the past). Surely that will save the institution!
