I couldn't agree with you more about leaving the novel alone until the 1st. I have planned out as much as I can, and that really isn't a lot and now I am back to writing my other novel until Novemeber 1.
I just write down a few important plot points, do a bit of character profiling and then skip off to write fanfiction, so if I decide to change plots, I can do it easily.
It seemed that working on something else, such as a short story or a side story, was one of the more popular recommendations among the forumers. I agree it's a good idea! Perhaps I'll dabble in a short story myself over the next few days.
I'm trying to do the same thing. I've planned it out, but have left some "moving around room" if you will. Right now, its time to visit those movies, books and games that wont be played with for a whole month. Who knows, they can even give a lot of good inspiration.
Quite so! Currently desperately trying to finish a book series and several movies before Sunday. Perhaps this pre-NaNo gorging will be like feeding before a long winter?
Not thinking about this will be hard, since I'm not entirely sure what is going to happen yet, but I think a good break will be nice, and mayhaps after such a break, that stupid character will suddenly have a name!
I ended up with burnout last year. I have been super careful to avoid that this year. It is so easy to overplan/obsess and end up dreading it before you even start.
I think taking a few days break is a brilliant idea.

Yeah, my MC has no name yet either. I think she's being purposely obtuse. *tsk*
