Kelsi giggled, arching her back under Taylor’s teasing caress. “Stop. Moving,” Taylor reminded her, an answering smile in her voice.

“I’m trying,” Kelsi insisted, and really she was. Taylor arched one skeptic eyebrow and then breathed a butterfly kiss onto Kelsi’s belly. “But you just-!”

“You’re wriggling!” Taylor accused, but now she was laughing too. “If you can’t hold still...” she let her voice trail off, and she slowly licked down the silken skin of Kelsi’s inner thigh.

“I... uh-huh,” Kelsi managed, and shivered at the pulse of lust that shot through her. She clutched restlessly at the bedsheets, unsure where to put her hands, what to do. She wanted to tangle her fingers in Taylor’s hair, just feel her move when she couldn’t see her, one flimsy connection in this overwhelming rush of passion. But she didn’t quite dare. Between her thighs, Taylor shifted slightly and Kelsi gasped as Tay slowly licked at her clit, then again. “Tay, I... you....”

“Shhh,” Taylor replied, nuzzling her cheek against Kelsi’s thigh. Her smile flashed wickedly in the dimness of Kelsi’s bedroom, and then she licked Kelsi again. It was faster this time, more sure, no longer the first hesitant strokes of experiment. Now Taylor was picking up a rhythm, licking and gently sucking in time with Kelsi’s sobbing breaths.

“Please,” Kelsi gasped, arching back against her pillow. She scrambled to find Taylor’s hand. “I need your fingers, oh god, please.”

Taylor rose up over her and brushed her fingertip over Kelsi’s bottom lip. Kelsi’s heart stuttered and then she took Tay’s fingers into her mouth, moaning softly as she sucked for a few seconds. Tay was getting worked up by this, too, Kelsi could see it in the impatient way she pulled back to lie down again. And then oh god Taylor’s finger was inside her, rubbing and teasing and coming so fucking close to complete perfection. “Please,” Kelsi said again, “more, I need-oh god,” and clearly her verbal skills were bailing on her now right when she needed them the most. She closed her fingers lightly around Taylor’s wrist and then gently twisted, pressing against her until-“Oh my god there, right there!”

Taylor’s grin winked again and then Kelsi shuddered hard, because Taylor’s fingers were fucking her just right, teasing against her G-spot, and her lips and tongue played Kelsi’s clit like she’d been born for this. Kelsi’s hand stole up to cup one of her own small breasts and she cried out. Lust crashed through her in waves until she could barely feel Taylor, Taylor was all she could feel, and she surrendered, melting back for endless moments until her mind slowly began to clear from its haze.

“Oh my god,” she whispered, wonder shining in her voice. “I think I love you.”

There was a long still moment, and then Taylor sat up to look down at her in the dimness. “Girl, it is time and past time that you figured that out.” She giggled and Kelsi had to giggle with her, weightless against the joy burbling up and through her. “You only-“

They were startled by the sudden clamor of Taylor’s cell phone, and Kelsi sat up in surprise. “God, sorry,” Taylor whispered, fumbling for her phone. “Turn my swag on, that’s Chad’s new ring and that boy knows better than to be calling me tonight,” she muttered. She silenced her cell and tossed it back into the haphazard pile of clothing on the floor, then looked up at Kelsi with a smile.

Kelsi blushed faintly; she could feel the heat climbing high on her cheeks and she couldn’t have kept herself from returning that smile if all the candy in the world were on her doorstep. “I think that we-“

She jumped, startled by the blare of her own phone now. She grabbed for it but then stared down at the screen in confusion. “It’s Chad,” she said, and shook her head. “Why would Chad call me?”

Taylor sighed and held out her hand for the phone. “Because he knows you’re with me,” she said, and put the phone to her ear. “Your pants had damn well better be on fire.” An exasperated frown settled on Taylor’s face, but then her eyes narrowed. “Ryan? No, why would he be with us?”

Kelsi sat back, surprised. Ryan had gone to the big basketball game tonight, she was pretty sure. He’d been such a bundle of excited nerves that it had taken him more than twenty jittery minutes just to decide on a hat, and - good friend that she was - Kelsi had carefully just stood out of the way and refrained from telling him how cosmically unlikely it was that Troy would ever notice his hat. But Ryan had insisted, this was the night of all nights, it was beyond important, it-

“But he was at the game, right? You saw him there?” Taylor asked, and Kelsi waved to get her attention.

“He might have gone somewhere with Troy,” she whispered, hoping she was doing the right thing by revealing that info.

Taylor looked at her in disbelief, but passed the word on to Chad. Then she shook her head, and held the phone slightly away from her mouth. “Chad says he saw Troy leave, but Ryan wasn’t with him. Chad wants to know if there’s anywhere Ryan might be in the school, a secret hide-out or something?”

Kelsi shrugged, thinking. “Umm... the green room, and the storage area behind the green room. Oh, and the catwalk, he likes all those places.” She held up her hand before Tay could relay her words back. “But he wouldn’t want to be there tonight, it’s too crazy. Sharpay wanted to renovate her rehearsal and dressing spaces, and Ms. Darbus said she could only have her architect and his workers there on nights when it wouldn’t interfere with the students.”

Taylor rolled her eyes and Kelsi smothered a giggle. The phone conversation continued and she scooted back to sit against the headboard, arms circled around her knees. And Kelsi realized that this must really be it - this amazing mystical feeling of pure unrippled satisfaction that she got from just watching Taylor talk on the phone to someone else.... Yeah. It could only be love.

“But then where would he go?” Chad dragged his fingers irritably through his hair. Dammit Ryan was a frustrating guy to try and track. He’d waited for him after the game-done the barest minimum clean-up to get himself smelling better, then raced out to the front courtyard to wait for when Ryan exited the school. And he’d waited. And... he’d waited. It seemed like all the students had left the building, off to parties and meals and hot Friday night dates, but as Chad strolled around the side of the school, he could see that Ryan’s silver Mercedes was still sitting in its reserved parking spot behind the theater. “No way would he go anywhere and leave his car here.”

“You don’t think he might have just gotten a ride from someone else?” Taylor asked, that calm voice of logic he’d come to depend on. Except...

“His car, Tay. Lady Gaga could strut by on her way to a show, and I don’t think Ryan would even leave his car behind for that. He’d charm them into letting him drive behind the tour bus or something.” Chad frowned out across the near-empty parking lot, then narrowed his eyes. It was hard to be sure through the chessboard glare of halogen lights against black sky, but he almost thought he’d seen a flash of movement. “Hold on,” he said, which was dumb because he was of course carrying his phone with him as he jogged out to the parking lot. “I think... I think he’s in his car.”

“Chad!” Maybe Chad’s satellite cell service was just a little too good, because Taylor’s exasperation was coming through way louder and clearer than he’d really prefer. “You didn’t check his car before you started calling and bothering us? We’re busy! Both of us! As you damn well know, or you wouldn’t have thought to even call both of us! When I tell you that it’s Friday night and I have plans with Kelsi, then you can just safely assume that-“

“Tay, I’ve got it,” Chad interrupted, and wow was that ever shaping up to be a classic reaming. “Thanks for all your help. Got to go.” He ended the call and slipped his phone into his pocket, then looked curiously at Ryan through the driver’s side window. “Evans. Are you... are you all right?”

Ryan pouted and slouched down even further against the fine leather seat. “No. Go away.”

“Go...” Chad looked around, and yeah it really seemed like they were the only two people in town. What the hell? “Why?” he asked, but he was already circling around to the other side. He knocked on the windshield and completely ignored Ryan’s venomous glare. Three, four, five.... Finally Ryan gave in and popped the locks, and Chad slipped inside the Mercedes to sit with him. “Have you been crying?”

“No!” Ryan spat the word out angrily, he should get points for convincing delivery and all that, except in the next instant he swiped the back of his hand across his very obviously wet eyes. And that pretty much ruined the effect of his denial.

“Okay,” Chad said softly, settling back into his seat. Ryan looked friggin’ miserable. Red nose, wet cheeks, pitiful quiver in his bottom lip. It made Chad ache to pull him into an embrace, try and soothe some of that pain away. “Maybe I can help,” he whispered.

Ryan snorted, then shook his head. “You, help? Yeah, I don’t think so,” he muttered, and stared blindly out the windshield at the night sky.

“Why not?” Chad shifted around a bit so he was facing Ryan, well, Ryan’s profile anyway. “I’m a good listener. I’m not a jerk. You can talk to me, Ryan.”

Ryan’s eyes slipped shut and he frowned deeply for a few seconds before turning to look at Chad. “You’re going to have to solemnly swear that you will not kick my ass or otherwise try to kill me.”

Okay... not the intro Chad had been expecting. “All right,” he agreed, nodding and hoping he looked suitably grave. “I swear.”

But there was still suspicion lurking in Ryan’s blue eyes. “You promise?”

“Ryan, I just swore, now you want me to promise too?” Chad chuckled a little. “Should I spit in my palm while I’m at it or something? Sign my name in blood?”

“All right, just shut up,” Ryan ordered, holding his hand up like he could stem the tide of Chad’s sarcasm. “Look, I... I just did something really stupid,” he confessed softly. “Like, crazy stupid. Like... haunt me for the rest of my life stupid.”

Chad’s brows rose and he watched Ryan closely, looking for any signs of humor or dissimulation. But he found none. “Okay. Um. Well, you’re alive and breathing, let’s start there,” he suggested, searching for a bright spot in this confused muddle. “So we know it’s not life-threatening, whatever you did. That’s a good start. Did you kill someone?”

The question made Ryan smile weakly, as Chad had hoped it would, and he grinned in return. “I’ll take that as a no. Um... you told Sharpay what you really think of Paris Hilton? You told Darbus what you really think of Tony Kushner?” Now Ryan softly chuckled in spite of himself. “Great, then!” Chad enthused. “We have now established that it could be far worse. Okay, Mr. Evans,” he braced his foot on his knee and held out his hand in invitation. “Tell me what terribly horrible embarrassing thing you did, which apparently wasn’t all that stupid after all.”

Ryan sighed, then leaned his head back against the neck rest. When he spoke his voice was so soft that Chad was sure he’d heard wrong, and he made Ryan repeat it. “I said, I kissed Troy Bolton.”

Oh. Fuck. Yes, apparently Chad had heard him right the first time. He stared at Ryan, absolutely frozen with shock.

Because Ryan had just done the most horribly stupid and embarrassing thing ever.
