I knew I was running out of time. Come on, what kind of college education would I be getting if I didn't read... (holds up copy of "the metamorphosis

awwwwwww. it least it isn't heart of darkness. or things fall apart. tristes tropiques by levi strauss (and i've only taken one class where they didn't deify him like he's the beginning and end of anthropology)...god, we read the same things over and over and over and over again...
i guess i should be grateful i've never had to read a raisin in the sun...or any more toni morrison books. i can only pray.
seriously. i mean, aside from being little more than a philosophical scratching post for derrida, he's just kind of...i dunno...all emo and shit. boohoo the poor naive native has soiled his innocence with the inefficacy of language, boohooes! god. tots "othering!"
i've read all those fuckers and i hate em too. frankly, i have to search my mind quite a bit to come up with any anthropoligical writings that aren't intensely orientalist and just...scarily outdated. probably because LEVI STRAUSS AND MALINOWSKI ARE THE PEOPLE EVERYONE ALWAYS READS! (head desk)
and then there are those grad students (many of them my friends) who think they're oh so oh so clever when they post some emo tastic levi strauss quotes in their journals and say something like "me and claude...we're pretty tight." NOT CUTE, GUYS. UNAMUSED MEGHAN IS NOT AMUSED. that would be like me saying...um..."me and t.s. eliot, we're like this. the wasteland, dude. it's like, we're LIVING in it! all the technologies and shit! sucking our SOULS out, man! postmodernism WHAT?"-_
