JD had pulled the short straw and drawn early morning stable duty today - Christmas Day, he was after all the youngest, newest employee and he was single, though Grissom was fairly sure he’d been in Jayne’s bed last night. The CDC was open 363 days a year; the only day’s it closed were Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. They had closed to clients at noon on Christmas Eve and would open again at noon on the 26th, which Jack, Ianto, George and Mitchell all insisted was called Boxing Day.

With JD taking care of the horses, his partner, his beloved was still safely tucked up in bed beside him. Nick shifted in his sleep, muttering something, then snuggling closer to Gill. Sometimes it was hard for him to remember what his life had been like BN - ‘Before Nick’. Then, after his mother passed away, Christmas had been a day he got to himself, no work, no student papers to mark, he used to give himself a gift, something expensive he wanted but didn’t need, he had an expensive meal delivered with a good bottle of wine and settled down to read a good book. At the time he thought it was a good day, now, looking back, he knew how lonely he had been then. That he could now be so totally in love, with someone who loved him, still amazed him, even after almost seven years. He still didn’t fully understand the obsessive, possessive nature of his love, but since Nick thrived on it, he no longer let that bother him.

Dawn was sending fingers of light across the room, Christmas day was waking up. From where he lay, he could see the gifts under the tree. These were the gifts between the two of them. In the main lounge there was another tree, a huge one and under it were two parcels for every member of staff, one from their ‘Secret Santa’ and one from the club. In addition everyone would receive a generous Christmas bonus. Buying for Nick was difficult; he had just about everything he wanted. Gill had spent what felt like days on the internet finding a book he hoped his partner would like. He’d also purchased a hand crafted silver belt buckle and a new silk shirt. Hard as it had been he was well aware that he was even more difficult to buy for and he dreaded to think what Nick had been through to find gifts for him.

Nick rolled over so that he was now facing Gil; he looked even more handsome in repose, much younger than his twenty six years. Twenty years separated them, he sometimes wondered if Nick would still love him when he was in his sixties and seventies, or would he seek out someone more his own age, someone who could keep up with him. He hoped not, if that happened, if his Nicky ever left him or - God forbid - died, Gilbert Grissom would be a dead man, he knew as surely as he knew he drew breath now, that to loose his Beloved was to loose himself, he’d commit suicide rather than live without him. Oh he’d make sure the others were taken care off, it was already in his will, when he died Nicky got the club, if he as dead too, then Jack, Tony and Buck got a third each.

Gil glanced at the clock, too early to wake Nick, everyone would sleep in today, and when they did wake, they’d have to make their own breakfast. Sometimes Gil felt sorry for Mac and George, while very one else was relaxing, they had to work.

George offered do the majority of the work.

“After all it’s no so important to me,” he reasoned.

“But it is to Mitchell,” Mac had pointed out.

George had laughed. “Bad enough I had to go and fall in love with a Christian, he has to be a Catholic!”

“Well don’t say it like it’s a curse, we’re reasonably harmless.”

George just grinned. “Seriously you and Danny have a lie in, Mitchell’s going to help me.” Mac had then looked alarmed. “Oh don’t take on, he’s only going to fetch and carry, actually he’s quite looking forward it.”

So that was settled. Don, feeling he should also offer to help had assigned himself table setting duty. Mal had gamely offered to help but Don said that would be worse then doing it alone. Mal was not the logical methodical type and his presence was very distracting.

Everyone played their part, JD might have drawn stable duty, but he wouldn’t be alone, Vin would be there, like Chris and Gibbs, he never slept in; which was fine for Chris and Vin, more of a problem for Gibbs, since Tony would always sleep late given the chance. Others would take turns to monitor security, clear tables, stack the dishwashers etc.

They would all eat together that afternoon, a huge feast; everyone would get their Christmas favourite, what ever it was. In the evening there would be entertainment, without a TV in sight. There would be a game of tag football in the sand coral. The first year Ianto had been at the CDC, Gibbs had asked Jack it he would be joining the game, would he even understand it. Jack had scoffed at the idea.

“It’s only tag, trust me, he’s from Wales, he’ll get it.”

Gibbs had to admit he didn’t fully understand the comment, but once Ianto had the ball it was very clear he knew what to do with it.

Then - as the light faded - they would all gather around the piano and the various members of the staff who could play musical instruments would jam together, Jack would sing of course, some of the others too, but in the end everyone would end up sing along and it would end with carols.

But right now, in the early morning, it was their alone time. Lifting his hand he let his fingers run though Nick’s short cropped hair, eliciting a contended sigh from his Beloved. It didn’t matter what he got for Christmas, now, in the past or the future, he already had everything he ever wanted, the greatest gift of all.
