German Village is an amazing area of Columbus just south of downtown (less than a mile from the Capitol building!). It is both the largest historic distric in the U.S. as well as the largest privately-funded restoration in the U.S. As a recent addition to the neighborhood, I would like to show you around a bit! Life surprises you sometimes. The sad, sorry young woman of 12 months ago, or even 6 months ago, has all but disappeared. More surprising, there was no miracle. No heart-stopping epiphany where the clouds parted and I decided to turn around this reality that had me so deeply entrenched in my own sadness that I could not fathom a way out. ( Read more... )

germinates on

Okay, so you may be wondering about what brought these pieces on.  Nothing really, just wanted to post them.  Both are great.  The first was assigned for my anthropology course, Language and Culture, and the second is a poem I've loved since I read it in our literature text book in high school and have remembered it since.  Enjoy!

I was talking to someone the other day--I forget who--and I mentioned how it was weird that I was so happy and cheerful with so much to get done, and so much stress weighing on me.  There is an obvious reason for that, and I probably don't even need to mention any names regarding the reason for my cheerfulness so I won't.  Ha ha.
