A poet, Wallace Stevens, had some interesting ideas about whether the Gods - or any existed. Seemed to think poetry could replace the Gods, or most forms of spirituality, specifically that of the Christians.

You're concerning yourself with the words of a poet over what you should know to be true.

How many gods have died while the rest of us thrived?

Yeah, I was aiming at something else Nemesis. More the fact he makes too much sense, when 'died' is a metaphor to 'stop being believed in'.
