Summary: After Jenova played with his head, Kakashi is left feeling completely confused and drained. Per Hojo's suggestion, Mao began to investigate the thoughts of ShinRa and those working for him before he came upon a particularly fun, interesting mind to play with... one that was already broken and wounded. And its owner was nearly crushed in spirit.

Perhaps if he'd had the energy to follow Jenova, he wouldn't have felt so stranded.
Perhaps if Rikku wasn't still missing, he wouldn't feel like he was to blame, although it was probably painfully obvious to others that this was no fault of his own. But it had always been part of his duty to ensure safety to his comrades and shoulder others' burdens and responsibilities.
He had his chance, but he missed it. Kakashi wished that he'd had the strength to follow Jenova, but his body was yearning for rest, already giving up its functions due to his recklessness. It wouldn't have been that way if only she hadn't gone missing.
And she wouldn't have gone missing if he'd been careful enough.
The self-imposed punishment continued in this cycle. His encounter with Jenova had not been any help at all; instead, she'd unearthed his deepest and darkest secrets, like releasing Pandemonium from Pandora's Box. All of his memories haunted him, and he could not find that one special virtue, the one saving grace amidst the despair--the glimmer called 'hope' was nowhere to be found. Perhaps it was because Rikku was no longer in his sight, for surely enough, Jenova warned that he would be blinded if he sought instead of waited.
Could Rikku still see him? Jenova had said that Rikku's vision was blurred, but she could still see him beyond that...
Well, he felt ashamed of himself now. If only he'd just waited it out, maybe he could find her in his cloud of thoughts. Maybe he could feel her in his dying emotions if only he'd given up earlier, right?
He was not only blinded but was also lost, unable to find a light to guide him through his darkness...
