Summary: Riku finally makes the effort to confront Charles about what he did and attempt to understand what happened.
He didn't know what to expect.
Riku had forgiven Charles a hundred other sins before, but that had been different. Those had all been in the past, easier to move beyond, easier to ignore. Riku hadn't been able to ignore this.
The thought had hardly crossed Charles's mind throughout it all. He had seen an opportunity, the closest shot he'd have at ruining Solomon in a place like this, and if that bitch Saya had to be used as a step toward that goal... well, Charles wouldn't fight that. But he had gotten too caught up, he always did. Too excited about the possibilities to consider the consequences, so engrossed in the role he played that at times, he had almost lost himself in the process. A disgusting role, one that he hated and one that he often wished more than anything that he could truly become.
And in all his enthusiasm, in the rush of adrenaline and poorly constructed fantasies, he had never considered how those on the outside would react to his actions. How Riku would react when it was his sister who had been involved, this time not as the intended recipient of an understandable vengeance, but as a mere tool in getting back at someone else.
He wasn't sorry. Charles would never care what tragedies befell Solomon or Saya; as far as he was concerned, they were well deserved, and he wasn't about to lie to say otherwise, even if it was his only shot at salvaging his relationship with Riku. Relationships would always fail in the end; he didn't need them, he didn't need--
A gentle knock came at the door, and Charles answered, putting on that same cold facade he had been using for days, knowing full well that distance wouldn't help resolve anything.
But if Riku didn't forgive him now, that distance was all Charles would have to protect himself.
