Hi

Just poking my nose in. RL has picked up lately, but I'm still reading fannish stuff when I get the chance. It makes me sad that I find myself much less engaged by SGA, which also means fandom in general, because I'm a mono sort of fan. Other than a dabbling sort of interest in Psych, no other fandom has piqued my interest lately ( Read more... )

Oh, I know the feeling. Maybe I can tempt you into Age of Sail fandoms? Specifically Sharpe, which I am feeling the extreme love for right now, but I would be happy for you to write any handsome men who wear awesome jackets with lots of buttons :-)

Buttons! And Sean Bean smolders so prettily. :D I did like the Hornblower books when I was a teenager.

Oh, I liked those books too! It was neat that the boy/boy stuff wasn't the point of the story--the characters and their relationships were important, but all part of the larger plot. I really liked the general worldbuilding in those books as well! Interesting, eh?

If you find a fandom for them, holler, will you? I'd be interested in reading MOAR too!

I certainly will.

And although I do like that the relationship is front and center in a lot of slash stories, I sometimes crave stories where it just sort of floats in the background. The off-screen side of their relationship is part of why I want to read MOAR, and it all feeds into my "fill the gaps" fandom writing muse.

Overall, the world building for those books was just outstanding--it felt real and lived-in and internally logical.

yes, absolutely. The worldbuilding makes it feel like it's just another country you haven't visited yet, and while I'm just as happy the relationship wasn't the major focus of the books, it does hit the fanfic button of "I wonder what happened when..."

Hi you. (and hi Tim & Donald!)

Aaawww, SGA. I'm gonna miss it too, once I let it go. Which won't be long now. Really. *g* (well, the fic-reading is lessening, since I reading more Merlin fics now, heheh) But it truly had my absolute focus and love for... years. *sigh*

Ooo, thanks for the recs. I wonder if I can find these books in my country or if I'd have to order them. I've only ever read the Garrett PI books from Glen Cook.

Tim and Donald--there's a couple I'd love to write more of. I just haven't been inspired since the few stories I wrote when I first got my hands on the movies. Oh, well.

I haven't read Cook's books; I'll have to check them out. I loved that the Points books were fantasy, but weren't "epic quest" clones, or melodramatic or anything. They just felt very real somehow.
