Just to let you know: Mage, like the old, has the potential to become insanely broken. Like, 'Before session, since i'm a Perfected adept, I get to cast my Dedication on my It's now a seven.'
Gotcha; thanks for the heads up. It seems like this probably won't be a problem as we don't really have anybody interested in a Mage who wouldn't be up for playing one of the Hunters instead, we probably won't end up with any Mages.
I don't know from Hunter, though from the stuff you list it looks interesting! My particular interest lies with nChangeling. Because they are the little children of the Fair Folk.
Also because they get some neat tricks that others don't. I could actually see one teaming up with Hunters for the chance to get back at the goddamn fairies. On the other hand, that also means losing a lot of the Changeling social game - but who cares? It's new social game!
(Or I could learn Hunter, if the book could fall off a truck for me.)
Changeling is definitely my favorite of the nWoD lines too, but we're looking at a Hunter game here, and for what it's worth, if a lot of what you like about Changeling is the social game, that's not going to be an emphasis in this game. No freehold politics, no Vampire style maneuvering. That's not to say it'll be a string of boss encounters or something, but generally speaking the focus will be on encounter with the unknown, not maneuvering through the world.
Honestly, we've got one Changeling lined up already now, and one I figure is a challenge enough to balance in a Hunter team; two - out of thus far four - would be a big old headache and split the focus to boot. Hunter isn't too hard to grok, and I'm willing to walk people through the Hunter-particular stuff. Unlike the other lines, they don't really have a template, they're just mortals with a simple extra gameplay mechanic (risking Willpower; I will explain that) and access to some new Merits (which again I can lay out for folks).
Actually, what I like least of Changeling is the social game. I like the Changelings themselves. Anyhoo, Hunter's cool if I can get the information. I had a neat idea for a Changeling (something along the lines of "you do not have any idea how good you have it. I had a daughter once. Now, if I see her - my first thought won't be that it's been a long time. My first thought will be that I could slit her throat with her earrings in less than a minute. Those bastards will pay for making me that way.") but it's something I can write about without needing it to be in game!
Of the Hunters, I'd say the Tier Threes appeal to me most, and of those the ones that I like best are VALKYRIE and the Ascending, followed by the Aegis. I have a few budding ideas as to what I could do there.
