Can music tame the savage beast?

Self awareness starts with the learning of identity. What makes the individual tick? What makes the individual feel the way they do in a given setting? Does color, music, clothing, smells, sounds, and sights affect mood? I think it depends upon the individual. I spent three hours listening to music over a period of 2 weeks. I wrote down how music ( Read more... )

Ok I picked two songs to do and here are the results:

The Beatles: Free as a Bird When I listened to this song I felt relaxed, happy and peaceful. I just felt light as air and I had the urge to want to sit underneath a tree or lay on my bed and listen to it. It really is a very mellow and calming song for me.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra: Deck the Halls This song pumped me with energy and I felt powerful listening to it. I wanted to go out and conquer the world. I felt like there was nothing that I could not do or accomplish.

Is there anything that you hadn't noticed before that when you listen to these songs that you are now aware of?

I'll give you an example. I'm putting on my playlist now and since I have heard each of these songs at least twice in a day, I'm going to document what I find from the first one that comes up.

Savage Garden: I loved You Before I Met You I have a feeling of remembering my first girlfriend and the togetherness we felt when we were together. I feel a sense of pain that I had to let her go and brought to tears as I think about the good times we had. I see her face and remembered how her hair flowed in the breeze. I have a strong sense of love and compassion that I feel is on a deeper level. I am compelled to call her even though I know that she has moved on with her life, married and with a couple of kids now last I heard.

Bernie Taupin: Don't let the Sun Go Down On Me I feel inspired and a sense of a strong sense of self worth that I knew was there before but amplified through the lyrics. I feel strong and powerful and ( ... )

I put my playlist on random and hit play. (I've got all sorts of stuff on there.)

"Check Yes, Juliet" by We The Kings:
It made me feel a little hyped and happy. A little jittery. My foot was actualy jittering to the beat a bit which I didn't notice until the song ended.

"Falling Apart" by Matt Nathanson:
Kinda weirdly made me feel kinda... nicely sad. The lyrics fit for something that recently has been making me cry a little.... which I didn't notice until now. A nice ache sort of though. Bizzare. Like a gentle ache that's also kinda sweet somehow. Bittersweet. Thats the word I'm looking for.

"Slipped Away" by Avril Lavigne:
Made me feel REALLY sad when I listened to this one. I started crying a little. It's a super sad song that usualy makes me cry anyway so I'm not suprised.

"Getting Into You" by Relient K:
Just in time to cheer me up this song started. ♥ This one makes me feel light-hearted and warm and happy. A very nice feeling~!

"Drown" by Three Days Grace:Mellowed me out. Not suprising. Angsty rock ALWAYS mellows me out ( ... )

Wow! You really did a good job with this! Even when we don't really think about it at the time, it's always good to reflect and you most certainly did that and I thank you. XD Wonderful job!
