Warren sighed when he saw plant-girl storm into the Chinese restaurant where he worked. Ordering a serve of her favourite dish, he went on break, taking his dinner over to the table she was sniffling at.

“What’s he done now?” As he sat, ate and listened to her pour out her tale of woe he felt that sometimes he was the third party in their relationship.

“Let me get this straight. For years you’ve told Stronghold that Valentines was overcommercialised by the card companies in order to prop up sales, and was cruel to roses. Now you’re surprised he didn’t get you anything for it?”
“Well, that was last year”
“This is Stronghold we’re talking about, yes he’s big and strong but he’s not that bright and has no idea about girls or dating. You know this.”

That sent plant-girl off a babbling torrent defending Stronghold, on about he had a good heart and heroic instincts and how he made her feel so protected (even though she really didn’t need to be protected) and all his other good points, while Warren just nodded and finished off his dinner. When she started describing how his laughter made her heart beat faster, he figured it was a good time to butt in.

“Well just remember all that and forgive him.” Seeing her dinner was ready he grabbed it. “Sit here, eat this and think of what you can tell him to do to make it up to you.”

Leaving her to eat while he started back at work, he thought of a similar conversation he’d had with a certain hero at lunch. By now, Stronghold would have gotten the stuffed animal and chocolates and be waiting for her by the time she calmed down and went home. It seemed that he spent more time fixing Stronghold and plant-girl’s love life than he did his own, but he supposed that was part of friendship.
