So I'm a member of an organisation dedicated to the conservation of my city's parklands (I'm the newsletter editor). Part of the parklands runs right next to the zoo, which are soon to be getting some new pandas, and they've been hyping it up a ton, what with building a new entrance and all. This morning there's a planned 'ramble', which basically means the mayor goes around and looks at a certain area--the new zoo entrance, on this occasion. Recently there were a whole bunch of trees cut down illegally in the area, directly related to the construction of the new entrance, so it's potentially important but the people who usually go on these rambles couldn't make it. I didn't know if anyone else from the committee was going 'cos every time I remembered to email I was never in a position to do so and the last three days have been pretty busy for me so I kept forgetting when I was, but I figured it was about time I got off my arse and went to one of these things, and I like walking so I figured I could cover it.

I don't have a car, so I have to catch public transport. So I worked it out and the thing starts at 9:30, and I'd have to get up at 7 to be ready in time to catch my train. Given how early I was getting up, I planned to actually make myself a decent breakfast for once, instead of just sort of ... skipping over it. Further tension ensued when I realised that Daylight Saving was due to start early (about 2.30 am) this morning and I'd have to remember to set my clock or I'd be screwed.

I set my clock. I went to bed early. I woke up at quarter to six with stomach cramps. I get really bad cramps, so of course my period had to start on the day I planned to go out. So after a while I ended up getting up, because the painkillers I take work best with food and I figured I may as well have breakfast early and whatnot, and I spent about an hour bumming around on my computer before finally getting ready and leaving.

I was walking down the driveway when I realised, 'It's Sunday.' The trains only run hourly on Sunday, half-past every hour, which is about ten minutes earlier than the usual mid-hour run during the weekdays.

Which meant the train had left five minutes beforehand. The next train leaves exactly when we're supposed to meet. By the time I got in there I'd be over half an hour late and everyone would have left the meeting site.

What the fuck, self? You actually make an effort to do something for once and you fucking forget the train timetable?! And this isn't the first time, either! Just because you usually go into the city on weekdays is no fucking excuse!

I'd call one of the other committee members and ask if they could pick me up--and they prolly would--but I live on like, the opposite side of the city to most of them and I don't even know who was planning to go, if anyone. I can't exactly ring around to them all, risking waking them up, on the off-chance I hit the right one. By the time they picked me up and we went back we'd be late and probably miss the beginning, which kinda sucks given it's a walk and we don't know the route. Then again, it's not like it's a massive place; even if I went late I could probably find them. But I'd miss the beginning.

Ugh, now I'm convincing myself that going late and trying to find them is better than not going at all. ._. God, self, make up your mind.

EDIT: So I ended up going anyway--late, of course. Everyone was gone when I got there and I wandered around for a while trying to find them, but I didn't until I backtracked and met a couple of people I knew with a group--they'd already finished, but I got a fill-in from one of the other committee members. Then I failed hard by thinking the train left at a time it didn't, so I thought I wouldn't make the next one and spent the next forty minutes in a coffeeshop, only to leave to catch the train I thought would leave next and realise halfway down the mall that, 'fuck! I got the time wrong!'.

Yay two lightning-bolt epiphanies in a day.

So I spent another half-hour in another coffeeshop and finally got home. And now my dad's home from holidays and I don't have the house to myself anymore. D=
