Damn. Daaaaaaamn. (I love that Molly likes the giraffes. For BtO, I'd made up that giraffes were Huck's favorite animals. So that kind of makes me grin.)
Mkay, two favorite bits: •That was thing, she rarely could tell what exactly he was thinking when his eyes became unresponsive. If she could, they might still be married. Or perhaps it would have ended even sooner. <-- That's so perfect. They're just so shit at communicating, so much of it is unspoken, and you've hit this right on the head.
•They didn’t have to be sleeping together to raise children together, though he had fingernail marks on his back which proved that truth does not always follow necessity. <-- SWOONY. I love the characterization of their relationship there. Because I think it would, finally, ultimately, work out to just be together to be together. With the kids and the love and not too together, but together enough. So yeah, this is perfect.
yay. I'm grinning. This was quite the thing to write, but I'm rather pleased with the way it turned out, and it makes very happy that you like it too, for more than just "ooh, someone wrote something about Toby and Andy."
Interestingly, both of the things you hit on were among the few sentences that I did have in mind before I wrote it. AND, I thought about switching the kids' animals, which would be omg funny and weird if we both said Huck like giraffes.
