Does anyone have any insight into why I like someone until they like me back and then develop an extensive mental list of reasons for which actually dating them would be a terrible idea?

Perhaps you were not really interested in that person, but meerly the cardboard box they came in. I think it's just a common human thing to wnat what we don't have almost just because we don't have it, then when you get it or getting it becomes an easy possibility the mystery is gone and interest is lost. We're all dumb and jaded?

loads of people do it... but usually when they find someone they are *actually* interested in, the problem disappears. don't worry! :)

Ack! Sister, are we talking about Batman? Speak! Now! Email! Update me. Do it.
PS Peter Peter had a dream that his parents dropped a house on him.

No, we aren't. We're talking about a random new character, for whom my former potential affection is waning. Maybe if you telephoned me or sumsing I could tell you all about it, but it really isn't that exciting.
PS I'm sorry to hear about Peter Peter's dream and I hope that it never comes into fruition.

Try to get him to dislike you again, and see what happens. If it works, then neither of you will want to date, so you win. If it doesn't work, then at worst you'll be back where you are now... ???
