“I’m glad you’re letting me drive, I don’t think I can take another five minutes with you behind the wheel,” Kangin laughed.

Eeteuk and Kangin drove down the highway, their windows rolled down as afternoon sunshine graced their faces. The soft wind blew on their skin and tussled their hair.

Eeteuk sighed. “Just because I can’t drive as well as you, doesn’t mean I’m that bad of a driver,” he countered, a pout forming on his lips.

“Teuk, we all drive better than you,” Kangin said, reaching over to turn on the radio. “And when you drive better than Heechul or Donghae, then you know someone’s a bad driver. Now where do you want to go to get-“

“Kangin! Keep your eyes on the road!” Eeteuk shouted, grabbing for the wheel.

Kangin looked up and immediately turned the wheel sharply to the left when he saw a car speeding toward them. The car swerved, smashing into another vehicle with a disturbingly loud screech. The sound of glass breaking sounded in their ears as shards of it rained on them. They looked up to see their windows shattered completely. Not even a second passed to let their hearts restart when another car rammed into them, forcing the car to topple over. The vehicle slammed them into another car, sending it flying into two more cars.

Eeteuk opened his eyes to see his world upside down. He felt something trickle down the side of his face; he pressed his fingers to his temple and winced. He brought back his hand to see blood spotted on his skin. He looked over to Kangin’s unconscious form, feeling his heart skip a beat.

“K-Kangin?” Eeteuk whispered, feeling his throat sting.

Sirens sounded off in the distance and he heard the cries of people nearing them. His vision began to blur as tear-stained faces closed in on him. He fought to keep his eyes open when flashing lights of blue, red, and white shone on everything. Black and white dots danced across his vision as everything began to quiet down into a low hum. He felt himself slipping into unconsciousness as his eyes began to close.

Eeteuk found himself sitting on soft, beach sand, by the ocean’s crashing waves. The sun was just beginning to set over the horizon, making the sky and water swirl into shades of blue, red, and orange. He leaned back on his hands, facing up towards the sky as his eyes shut. The wind played with his hair, throwing it across his eyes and tickling his cheeks. The soft ocean breeze danced along the skin of his chest and torso, for the white shirt he wore was unbuttoned and open.

This is nice… Eeteuk thought as he sighed contently.

“Yah, Teukie,” said a voice not far from him.

He looked up to see Kangin strolling toward him. A soft smile graced Eeteuk’s lips as the other man sat next to him.

“This place is really nice,” Kangin observed, looking in front of him at the water.

“Mm-hm…” Eeteuk murmured, his eyes not leaving Kangin’s face.

“Do you think we’re dead?” Kangin asked, looking over at Eeteuk.

“What?!” Eeteuk’s eyes widened in horror. “What makes you say that?”

“I mean, we were in an accident, Teukie. And look at this place!” He said, his arms gesturing at the ocean. “It’s like…”

“Heaven,” Eetuek mumbled.

“Yeah, because you’re here with me.” Kangin murmured, leaning toward Eeteuk.

Their lips brushed each other as Kangin’s hand reached up to caress Eeteuk’s cheek. Eeteuk’s hand ran up Kangin’s arm when their kiss began to deepen.

A rain drop fell from the sky and landed on Kangin’s nose. He broke away from the kiss and looked up to see dark clouds forming above their heads. It soon began raining, black spots appearing wherever the rain touched. Kangin and Eeteuk looked at each other, smiled, and then began laughing.

They go up as the rain began to fall down on them harder. They ran for shelter, watching the sky flash with lighting. Kangin’s hand wrapped around Eeteuk’s and gave him a comforting squeeze. The sky began to rumble, seeming to growl at them. And then, the air was filled with thunder, sounding like enormous boulders crashing into each other. Eeteuk jumped and looked down at his hand, expecting to find Kangin’s there.

“Kangin?” Eeteuk asked, looking around when nobody responded. “Yah! This isn’t funny! Where are you?!” he shouted, feeling cold through his soaked clothes.

He wrapped his arms around himself and shut his eyes tightly, wanting to wake up from this place.

When he reopened his eyes, he found himself alone in a church. He looked down at himself, realizing that the white clothes he had on before were replaced with a black suit. A few feet away from him was a black, sleek coffin. He gulped as he stepped over to it, peering into the open case. He felt his heart jump to his throat and his knees buckle. His eyes begin to swim in tears as he found it difficult to stand. His throat felt dry and he was having a hard time trying to breathe.

Kangin’s lifeless form laid motionless in the coffin as Eeteuk’s hand reached over to brush his fingers against his cold cheek.

“Yah, wake up,” Eeteuk whispered, broken sobs beginning to bubble up his throat. “Wake up, Kangin,” he said a bit louder, griping the other man’s shoulders, beginning to shake him. “Wake up, dammit! Stop playing, and open your damn eyes! You think this is funny? Well, it’s not! Stop trying to mess with me and wake up!” Loud sobs escaped his lips as he sunk to the floor, tears pouring down his face.

He cried for what seemed like forever when he decided he had enough strength to stand up again.

“You weren’t supposed to leave without me,” he murmured, staring down at Kangin’s calmed face. “You weren’t supposed to leave me alone! What were you thinking…? I-I love you…”

Eeteuk woke up with a jolt, his eyes snapping open. The annoying sound of a loud beeping noise was sounded next to him, reminding him that he was back in reality. His eyes reluctantly opened to a white ceiling. He groaned and tried to roll over. Pain shot up his side and he felt a headache beginning to form. He looked down at himself where tubes and wires surrounded him. His breathing became shallow as he looked around, desperately searching for his Kangin.

Images from his nightmare flashed into his mind. An earsplitting scream escaped his throat as he began to thrash against the bed sheets, ignoring the pain that stabbed at his body as he moved. A nurse rushed in, alarmed, to see what was happening in the room. She ran out of the room, calling for the doctor. They came back in, immediately trying to restrain Eeteuk.

“You need to calm down,” he said, gripping Eeteuk’s arms.

“Where is he?!” Eeteuk shouted in his face. “Where the hell is my Kangin?!”

“He’s fine and in another room. You still haven’t recovered from your injuries, so please calm yourself, sir,” he said, making sure Eeteuk was calm enough to release.

Eeteuk laid back down, staring up at the ceiling, feeling defeated.

“I’m Doctor Yoochun,” he said, smiling down at Eeteuk.

“When can I see him?” Eeteuk whispered, still staring up at the ceiling, ignoring D. Yoochun.

“When you’re well enough to walk, I suppose. But right now, you aren’t. He isn’t well enough to come see you either. I’m afraid that he’s in a worse state than you a-“

“What?! What’s wrong with him?” Eeteuk interrupted, his hand going up to grip the man’s white collar.

“Well,” he said as he pulled himself free from Eeteuk’s grip, “he broke a rib and twisted his ankle. He has a concussion and almost died of blood loss. All you had was to get stitched up when glass entered your waist. You have a minor wound on your forehead that will probably give you headaches for a while-we’ll give you pain killers for that. But other than that, you two should be fine. I got to say, you two men are lucky to be alive. You seem to be doing well though. Well I gotta go see if Kangin has woken up yet. I’ll be back to check up on you later,” he finished, nodding at the nurse and left the room with her.

Eeteuk stared after them, in complete shock. How could someone talk so calmly of someone else’s almost-death? Eeteuk played Dr. Yoochun’s words in his head.

“…and almost died of blood loss…”

Almost died? Eeteuk couldn’t imagine what life would have been like without Kangin. If not Kangin, then who would Eeteuk run to when fists start to fly in their apartment? Who would he go to when the car decides to commit suicide and stop working? Who would he run to when life decides to be rough with him? Who would be there with open arms when he has tears running down his face? Who would whisper “I love you, Teuk, you and only you…” while slowly entering the deepest part of him? Who would hug him and remind him that he’s not alone?

Nobody.

Because if Kangin were to the suddenly disappear, then so would Eeteuk.
