I ended up voting straight Democrat on the CA statewide offices. For Senate and Governor I think this was fairly important, but I probably should have investigated the Green and Peace and Freedom people more in some of the other races, and figured out what the poll standings of the Ds and Rs were. I probably would have been happier not voting for Gavin Newsom, even though I probably dislike him less than Jerry Brown (though I don't really know for sure).

Your congressman is unopposed? Not even the Greens or the Socialists could scrape a candidate together?

I think I know the reason.

Massachusetts is about to lose a Congressional district. If a non-Democrat somehow managed to win the state's bluest district, who do you think the state politicians would redistrict out of the way?

This was really helpful - my tries at research in the primaries totally failed when I actually got to the ballot box, leaving me more frustrated about digging through stuff this time. I didn't end up taking all your suggestions, but it was clarifying to see/read.
