Some places will do it for a charge. T-mobile in the states did mine for free, but they say you have to have a long-term contract in order to do it.

I did have a long term contract, canceled it without being told I needed a contract to unlock, and now I don't have a contract they refuse to unlock.

I regard this as a failure of customer service and am considering a complaint to OFCOM regarding this.

The HTC Universal should be unlockable using free code from the XDA-Developers website.

Ah yes, here are the instructions. You'll need a Windows PC to run the various applications.

I have no problem with that, but it would be nice to know it was insured...

That seems odd. Whenever I've had Nokias, I've generally just paid someone on eBay about $5 - $10 for unlock instructions and have always been successful.

Various of the websites say that it's not possible to unlock an E61 with a number from the web...
