Unlocking update

Hmmm - my first attempt to unlock the HTC Universal brick seems to have been unsuccessful - on inserting a replacement SIM card I was confronted by a 'SIM Lock enter code' menu, which I guess is a bad sign.

Not sure what to do now... I do at least have a loan mobile thanks to the generous djwHints on pay as you go SIMs for Canada also wanted, as I ( Read more... )

Over here, you just contact your telephone company and ask them for the code. T-Mobile did it for me for free, since I had a long-term contract, but they also made me agree not to hold them liable if anyone stole my phone and switched out the SIM.

The problem is (a) I cancelled my contract before unlocking because (b) T-mobile didn't mention anything about unlocking when I was canceling.

I am not happy about this, but it seems that obfuscating unlocking is standard policy for most UK operators.

I haven't found a decent deal for Canada yet. I certainly can't afford to use my AT&T device for data.

I'll probably be bringing one of my spare phones and getting a PAYG SIM from somewhere on the Thursday. I can bring spare phones.
