[Tsuzuki has chosen to let Hisoka sit in the living room, but he's debating whether that is a good idea. Hisoka is so proud, he'd likely feel mortified that people saw him this vulnerable.]

[Unhappy and worried with the lack of response, Tsuzuki touches his knuckles to Hisoka's lips. It feels like they're chapped.]

[Not waiting for a response, he goes to fetch a glass. The fussying may seem obsessive, but it's the only thing he can do not to fall apart right now. Very carefully, he lifts the glass up to Hisoka's lips.]

[He doesn't argue with the fussing any more than he's fought about anything in the last few days. At least swallowing is something his muscles remember, even if the rest of him is off having a vacation. When the water slips into his unresisting mouth, Hisoka takes a series of gulps.]

[Cake will do his best to teach the Big One On to play nice. At the moment, he is more than happy enough to lie on Hisoka's lap, though. Work can wait until he's had a nap.]

[It breaks his heart that he can't see any recognition in those green eyes. Usually it would never take this long to recover from a wound. Shinigami were known for their healing abilities. Tsuzuki could only imagine that it was a wound caused by empathy. Maybe that's why it had hurt him so badly. He picks up a pillow instead of a glass, putting it behind Hisoka's head.]

[Monarches are allowed to act spoiled once in a while. Besides, the lap is comfy. He curls his small paws around Hisoka's wrist.]

[This is going to haunt his nightmares for a long time. It was preventable. If he had followed his gut feeling, Hisoka wouldn't have been forced to face enemies alone. Tsuzuki forces himself not to cry.]

[The kitten's ears perk up at what he's come to understand as one of the many names people use to say 'you there! Cat! Pay attention over here.' He gives Tsuzuki an expectant stare, blinking twice before yawning. Is there about to be food? Perhaps some play?]

[Tsuzuki scratches him behind his ears. He takes a deep breath, trying not to reveal how devastating this really is. Since he can't reach Hisoka, he lifts the kitten up and hugs it.]

Sorry, I don't have any food.

[He sits down next to Hisoka, hoping for some kind of miracle. Maybe if he just keeps talking to him, he'll figure out how to wake up.]

Do you want me to read you a book? I know you like books.

[The hugging is acceptable! Cake endures it, and starts chewing lightly on Tsuzuki's shirt while he's here.]

[Book? What is 'book'. Hisoka neither confirms nor denies what Tsuzuki wants to do, looking as absent and dead-eyed as ever.]

[He picks up the closest book, which is a fairy tale book. How it ended up in their home, he will never know.]

[It probably landed there after Hisoka was researching the last experiment. He'd reasoned that it was the only way to figure out how to get the fin off. If nothing else, Hisoka's a very good audience for the story? He doesn't interrupt in the slightest.]

[He did indeed catch it! And although it stings to have tiny claws dig into his finger, Tsuzuki takes it in good stride and tries to continue the game.]

[But he soon gives it up, letting Cake nom on his finger for now. He turns to Hisoka, a fond look in his eyes.]

[VICTORY! Cake grips the finger and traps it in both his front paws, kicking his hind paws at it.]

[If Tsuzuki waits long enough, Hisoka will eventually blink... But it's a natural, eye-moistening action, with no relation to the question asked.]

[Tsuzuki twitches his fingers as if it's a bug that's trying to get away. Kitten antics are so cute, so he wants to encourage it.]

[He does wait until he sees the blink, but he doesn't fool himself. It takes too long. With a shivery sigh, he wipes his own eyes, before he takes Hisoka's hand.]
