Into this furnace I ask you now to venture / You whom I cannot betray

Well, friends, it has now been exactly six months since the Good Omens TV show took over my whole life, and I have just finished my fourth (4th) vid. Yes, it's also my eighth (8th) vid set to Vienna Teng. WHAT OF IT. I DO WHAT I WANT, THOR.

I started this one aaaaages ago - sometime shortly after finishing Hallelujah and thinking to myself 'well, pretty sure I'm finally done making GO vids!' Lol @ Past Me. I can't quite remember how I came to start making this - this song has been a Doctor/River Song vid in my head since foreverrrrrrr (I mean, come on, 'these are the scars that Silence carved on me') and I have been mentally vidding it for them for years. But never got around to actually making it. And then, BAM, along comes GO and steals their song. Sorry River, sorry Doctor, sometimes that's just how it goes. I will vid you one day, I promise. Interestingly, the sections of the song that I found hardest to work out for Crowley and Aziraphale were the sections that I had clearest in my head for the Doctor and River.

It took so long to make because I paused in the middle, to await the release of the DVD. I had high hopes that a very particular deleted scene (which I KNOW they filmed) would be on there. Alas, it was not, and then I had to recalibrate my plans, which I am bad at.

Anyway, this one comes with a reading list! Ideas don't tend to happen in a vacuum, and it's important to credit the people who have inspired your work. So here are some things I was consciously thinking about as I made this:

1. This meta by the wonderful
elisi, in particular the little bit near the end about Crowley and FIRE

2. What's Done In The Dark, a glorious long fic about Crowley through history seeking out Aziraphale’s angelic warmth

3. A Street in a Strange World, in which God gives Aziraphale a flaming sword, but not the one you're thinking of

4. Leonard Cohen. Like, I know this is not set to a Leonard Cohen song, or even a cover of a Leonard Cohen song, but I was listening to Leonard Cohen a LOT in the early days of making this vid, and there were a lot of relevant lyrics (see title of this post)

Also, it's kind of a partner vid to Hallelujah. That was Aziraphale's song, this is Crowley's. As with Hallelujah, this one started life as a pretty simple ship vid, and then got...hijacked by some unexpected God/faith issues that I am extremely bewildered by.

I LEARNED THINGS making this one! I am delighted that with each new vid I make using FCP, I am learning new things about how it works. This time I taught myself how to use colour masks and keyframes (well, I say 'how to use'...more like 'how to get them to do a thing via trial and error in a way that is probably much less efficient than how they are supposed to be used', but you know). I also did more with recolouring and special effects than I have ever done before, in the course of taking a tiny clip from Supernatural and a tiny clip from a Billie Eilish music video that Twitter promoted to me at just the right moment, and editing them to do what I wanted. LEARNING THINGS. \o/

Huge, HUGE, ENORMOUS thanks to both
elisi and
promethia_tenk who went above and beyond, and very kindly & patiently talked this through with me at great length over A MILLION rambling emails, and between them made this a MUCH better vid than I could have done alone <333
