26/10/2016 - Siem Reap

Dear digestive tract: I hadn't forgotten you. No need to remind me you're there.

Well, to be fair I think I was just about the only one who hadn't had the runs so it's only fair. Still. :-/

Scrambled eggs for breakfast and a gastrostop. Previous experience suggests it'll be over effective. We ordered the same tuk tuk as yesterday for 9 am, and dosed up on various things as required, Rowan, Arwin and I set forth to Pre Rup, the sunset temple Phnom Bak??? Where we were the only people and it was wonderful and the temple was undergoing extensive renovation and preservation, and finally Bayon with its many many Buddha heads, walking then back up the Elephant Terrace to meet our tuk tuk and come home. Much less seen than last time but far more manageable with sickly people. Got back home around 1pm, so a nice half day.

Rowan's family were having lunch and cocktails at the hotel when we returned, and as his mother, aunt and uncle were flying out to Vietnam that night, and 7 half of us heading for Battambang, Rowan wanted to have a final meal all together. So we agreed to meet at 4:30. Rowan, Arwin and I went and got a delicious vegetarian lunch from Café Dee near the hotel, well worth it, local prices and great veggies. Arwin has now tried the Khmer dish Amok and liked it.

We then went back to The Great Escape to try another scene, Crime Scene 86. Was another good challenge, and this time we were on the final lock when time ran out. Nearly and almost! Oh well!

On getting back to the hotel we met up with the family and went for drinks and pre-flight snack at Tex Mex. Awful place, nachos were not only bland but old and soggy, yuck. So that was not a winner at all. And Barbara dropped her sunglasses but they'd disappeared when we went back later. :(

After seeing Vija, Birut and Dirk off, I went back to my room to mend the bad seam I found in the happy pants I bought at the night market. We met up again at 7pm, went back to the chemist for the 3rd time in 3 days (eep!), and got a fish foot massage (yay!) Then went back to Khmer Family Restaurant for dinner as it was du delicious last time. Again it delivered, wonderful place :)

Headed back to hotel, passed out on bed, showered, and packed bag ready for an early start tomorrow - river boat up the Tonle Sap River to Battambang. Bit scared but I'm sure it'll be fine! :)

News on now - Cambodians use 10x as many plastic bags pear head as Europeans, aim to drop usage by 50% by 2019. Yay!

Sleeps….
