6/12/2016 conference

First full day of conference. Paul from CSIRO in Hobart, now at PCMDI, is here, had lunch with him at the local brewing company place.

Conference day one went well. Took lots of notes as I'm helping Dean do the conference report. Rained and drizzled all day. In the afternoon Arwin went back to the Smithsonian and had a go in the flight simulator and watched Arrival at the imax there. Met back up in the room about 6:30. We had a big lunch so decided to not really have tea. Went for a walk down to the White House to see the building and the Christmas trees. The trees were kinda cool, but we didn't get to go anywhere near the building. We did, however, see the presidential motorcade go past! It's huge!

Went and had a look in Macy's department store, then went to Ollie’s Trolley burger place and Arwin got a burger, fries and root beer. Which tastes like medicine!

Back to the hotel and I went to a gym for the first time ever! Wonder if I'll be sore tomorrow….

7/12/2016 - conference

Yep, definitely feel like I've done exercise. Not in any pain though so that's good.

So much email. Trying to balance email, work and taking notes for the conference report.

XC meeting at lunch so lunch was just a bit of banana bread from the Starbucks downstairs. I think I'm reasonably on top of things but quite stressed. My talk seemed to go pretty okay though.

Tried to go to Founding Farmers for tea but it's very busy. Wandered through the city, found Foggy Bottom Metro station so obviously had to catch the train from there. Trained back to Metro Centre and walked to Chinatown and liked round the food options there. Although there are lots of restaurants we ended up at Vapiano again. It is good!

During the day Arwin went to the Natural History Museum. And talked to a squirrel. Sounds like he had a good day :)

8/12/2016 conference

Not a lot happened, had lunch with some guys from Montreal at an Asian place in Chinatown and dinner with about 16 from the conference at pi pizzeria. Which I was very excited by the name of when we first got here but realised they don't really sell anything I'd eat. But wasn't unhappy to go there with a group. Arwin and I shared an eggplant pizza. I was feeling very full and not entirely well when we got home, possibly the pad Thai earlier but who knows.

9/12/2016 last day of DC

Conference wrapped up about 11am I even managed to make it to 11am which was a little surprising in the end - last night's feeling off turned into feeling really quite unwell during the night and eventually diarrhoea and vomiting from 4am onwards. Not at all fun.

Anyway conference finished off okay and I got a bunch of work done.

Arwin used the morning to go find a laundromat and clean our clothes before the next bit of our trip.

Although I’d stopped being sick, I really didn't feel up to doing anything, so I spent the afternoon and evening in the room sewing, snoozing and watching hockey on Arwin's YouTube through the Tv. We got our bags packed and booked all remaining travel for the trip - bus from Washington DC top NYC, from NY to Boston, and then a big long train trip from Boston back to Washington. That's quite expensive but feels worth it for the distance. Also train :-)

Feel bad for not making more of my last day here, and Arwin was keen to take me to the flight simulator at air and space museum, but I just wanted to rest and drink some iced water. Oh well, at least I hat that time to spare. Thank goodness for time off and travel meds.
