With me it would usually be a power cut that kills something running overnight, so you only have the power company to blame. If I knew its someone's fault and they don't own up, then painful murder would be on my mind.

Screwing up the experiment is a forgivable error. Not owning up to it is just cowardly... even worse if (or when) you find out who did it.
