It's always easy for me to lose track of the season in the city. Growing up in more rural environs, there were always botanical clues to keep you in tune. I've generally adapted, but every once in a while I find myself missing some of the more subtle signposts of spring. I don't see any a priori reasons why your buttercups shouldn't spread as well in the city as in the country. We certainly get plenty of our version in towns - in lawns, parks, growing through the pavement.

Maybe its just that they haven't got started yet? Perhaps you could bring some seeds from the country and scatter them in the ravine or on your lawn and see if they take root!
