“Twin girls, a good omen” everyone said, as their father had said when they’d been born. A sign of divine acceptance to a man from Mnemosyne and a woman from Lethe in love with each other, in the only place the two could live, an asteroid colony between the two warring planets.
They were spoiled, as children in this war zone could be. People in a small town couldn’t keep from them the quantum bomb that had taken their mother, the debox swarm their father had succumb to.
They knew of a place they could image was a meadow, the micro-meteorite holes flowers. The blue-eyed girl found her sister there, in a pink dress that matched her eyes and their hair.
“You got a new dress?”
“Sister!” her eyes teared. “I’m afraid. I think I am… I think I am a… How can I be a Senshi? I’m afraid. I don’t want to fight; I’m scared. I always… I always thought you… would protect me.”
“I will! I promise, Sister. I don’t care if you’re a soldier; you won’t have to fight anything because I’ll beat it first.”
“But you don’t have the powers of a Senshi.”
“I don’t care.” She balled her fists. “For you… for you…” She ducked her head to relieve her watering eyes. She had never owned a blue dress that looked like that.
