Chibiusa had made her dreamscape as much like normal Tokyo as possible to give them a “normal date” but it was already proving a disaster.
Her control of the dream world was only so strong and not so precise, so Tokyo-in-her-dream had turned out too exactly like Tokyo-in-real-life.
“I have two hundred often yen in here,” she complained as she went through her Hello Kitty change purse in front of the vending machine. “It’s just that most of it’s in one or five coins and it doesn’t take below tens.”
“This is really not necessary, my Lady,” Helios reassured.
“Don’t call me that. Other girl’s boyfriends don’t call them that.”
“Yes, m… C… I understand. Is there anywhere one might exchange money for other denominations?”
“A bank, a post office, a… Oh, of course, come on.”
She pulled Helios with her but when he tried to walk on his own he didn’t notice she’d stopped and Chibiusa had to pull him off the train tracks before the five o’clock limited express went past.
She almost lost him again to neon signs and five times more to Shounen Rival, meat on a stick, hangers, soy sauce-flavored rice chips, and Evangelion hundred yen action figures once they were actually inside the convenience store.
The clerk range up her exact change for two drinks entirely in small change slowly but amicably enough.
“You open it like this,” she showed him understandingly and then tipped back her grape Fanta.
Helios copied her then choked and orange Fanta came out his nose. “Is this supposed to have jelly in it?”
