The cat stared back.
“I’m going to grow up to be one of those cat ladies.” She ignored how old in Earth time she actually was. “At least Reika will be happy, cat. She keeps telling me to be more sociable.”
The cat thumped his tail.
“I’m already talking to you, cat. Why did you follow me home? Why have you been following me all week?”
The cat meowed. Having a cat was quite a bit different than being friends with a Mauian, like Diana.
“What am I going to call you? No, I refuse to name you Cat, cat. I could tell people you were Humfrey Constantine Bollinger III and still call you Cat. No. I don’t have to be creative to not be lame.”
The cat started sniffing her for more tuna sandwiches.
“Sandstorm. I’ll call you that, alright Sandy? You’re the right color. Right.” She leaned back to look upward at the blue Tokyo sky out the window. “I’m one of those ladies who lives alone and talks to her cat.”
