“You fuckin’ idiot. If you don’t tell me things I won’t know. I near staked you like those vampire hunters did your friend.”

“She wasn’t a friend. Kurene was just a servant.”

“Whatever.” Kyoko replaced her stake up her sleeve.

“You’re not scared anymore?” Jadeite asked her.

“…No. I ain’t gonna tell anyone your secret, but you’d better deal with that.”

“What?”

The gangster gestured to the bloodless dead body in the alley with them.

“I wasn’t going to do anything.”

“You idiot. No wonder those vamp hunter girls are kicking your ass. Have you been livin’ in a cave for a century?”

“A millennia.” He shoved her, just a little for him but she went flying into a wall. She took the light impact as though it was nothing, though.

“Take the body. Come on, you carry ‘er. We’ll dump it in Tokyo Bay like the yakuza ‘n I do.”

“You’re helping me?” His plans to kill her were quickly disappearing.

“You touched in the head? We ain’t gangmates but we’ve known each other a while, right?”

“Weeks. Bitch. I still oughta kill you.”

“Then try, bitch,” she repeated back undaunted, though her hands went to her stake and her gun.

“Eh, wouldn’t be worth it. You’re skinny as a twig and I just ate.”

“Then get over yourself.” She shrugged. No one treated him this way. The youma servants cowered, his brothers looked at him as a treat, Beryl made him submit.

Jadeite found himself reaching out slowly to take her hand. It had been scratched against the abrasive wall but wasn’t bleeding. “If you’re going to know and work with me, I’ll make you a ghoul.”

“What’ll that be? Will I be able to turn into bats like your Kurene?”

“No. You’ll still be mostly human. You’ll be able to go out in sunlight and you’ll age. You’ll just be a little stronger and faster and heal quicker. We keep running into each other anyway but that way I’ll always be able to find you. You might be able to do the same to me if I’m not blocking you.”

“Eh. Okay. So what’s the ritual for joinin’ your gang? Somethin’ with blood, right? Am I gonna get itchy mosquito bites?”

“That’s what you’re worried about?”

“No. Am I gonna pick up any weird STDs from your blood like from sharin’ needles?” Kyoko shrugged. “I’ll do it anyway. It’s your gang’s ritual. Just so you know, I’m not leavin’ my motorcycle gang. We ain’t rivals or even in the same line of business, but if we ever were I’d be with ‘em.”

“Whatever. I don’t care about humans. Vampires don’t transmit diseases.”

“Fine. At least I won’t get the plague with you bein’ a thousand somethin’ years old.” She slid off her jacket to reveal her shoulders and arms. Her weaponry was much more obvious without it.

He was glad he’d just eaten as his hunger rose at the sight of her bare neck. Jadeite decided he’d be better off with only her wrist to make sure he didn’t take too much and kill her. He wasn’t even going to take as much as she’d give if she donated blood, let alone change her into a vampire.

He licked the skin above her radial pulse so the anesthetic properties of his saliva could start to take effect. Knowing her he was not surprised Kyoko tasted of tobacco. Her pulse was slightly elevated but steady and her hand didn’t shake.

His fangs sank into her wrist and she gasped at the sudden pain. The vampire reached out his other hand to steady her, though she wasn’t pulling away. Her blood was stronger than he’d expected, something dark and demonic weaved through the salt of her human life. Somehow she’d ended up pressed up against him with her arm between them. Her body was only a few degrees warmer than his but it felt burning hot. He could feel her heart jump and struggle to beat faster where his lips touched her skin.

It was easier to pull away than he’d worried. Her blood was thick and he already felt glutted with it. He still licked the red line that made a trail down her skin after he’d pulled away. Her eyes were slightly glazed by open and focused on him. He drew a nail across his throat to start the flow of blood for the human.

Kyoko needed no prompting to move even closer into the circle of his arms and lick at his neck, then suck at the wound itself. His unnecessary breath hitched at how good having his blood sucked out of him felt. A soft black cloud formed in his mind and he shivered at the tinglings of pleasure dancing across his skin. His heart sped up as he arched against her, wanting her more.

His heartbeat was sluggish and slowing despite ecstasy singing in his veins by the time he thought of pushing her away. He jumped on that thought. She’d mind-rolled him as easily as he did his victims.

She stumbled back unsteadily on her feet, her eyes lidded and her lips bright red with blood. She still managed, “If it’s usually like that ‘n you didn’t warn me, I will hit you.”

A ghoul needed a sip of vampiric blood, nothing more. He had given her as much as he would a new vampire, but she had been nowhere near low on her own human blood when he’d done it.

“Hey, you okay? Jay?”

A fledgling vampire would be rolling on the ground in pain with their own new blood poisoning them as they continued to die by now. She looked concernedly as he got his balance and his black heart pounded in his ears and he yearned with desire for her.

Just what was she?
